I like snakes, so I guess so?
They just seemed... not quite excessive, but the coloration reminded me of a porpoise or a shark, both of which don't have tails nearly that long. They mainly just surprised me.
I know the Connor!Mermaid has a long tail, too, but its length can't be fully appreciated like these boys'.

In the original design, both had a slightly shorter tail, like the one I did in Connor's drawing, but I liked the idea of a longer tail for them, don't know why

It's an interesting design choice. And one I'm glad you're exploring, as most merpeople, even when their tails are designs on different types of fish and water mammals, have a certain length of tail.
Makes me wonder if they swim differently to accommodate...
