Here's an engine with an interesting history.

Back in the days of the Big Five, Geoffrey worked on the London, Midland, and Scottish Railway as one of their Express- Mixed-Traffic Engines. Back then he wasn't known as Geoffrey, as he went by a completely different name, Jason Carter. Jason was a very charismatic, hard-working character among the Midis and was one of their more devious engines. During his early years, he used to sabotage the competition in a fallacious sense of being loyal to the LMS, driven by pure ego out of the belief that he could get away with it.

That all changed when he came to Sodor in 1930. He was very well-liked among the Midis and helped Clyde in sabotaging the Nor'weasters' trains. This eventually resulted in him being caught by Joey, Edward, and Johnny (his own teammate) and taken away to Rail Gate Prison where he would be shunted for a few months. His time in prison started to slowly make him rethink his attitude and outlook on life. A few years after he was released, he returned, much to everyone's dismay, to look after the goods trains while Peter was away.

To his surprise he found himself getting involved in investigating a series of smuggling and sabotage events (while ignoring the accusations towards him) along with a J50 named Christopher. It was during this time, that Jason started to develop a bit of a friendship with the J50 as he truly began to see the errors of his way. After catching the culprits, he set about making amends. and though it took a while, some more so than others, by the time he went back, no one hated him, though he was still haunted by his past.

When he was withdrawn, he was left alone in a shed for many years before being found bought by the Fat Controller in the 1980s. After encountering another from his past, Jason finally decided it was time to move on from his past and decided to get a new paint job and name. Coincidentally this was around the same Thomas started making up stories about a big red engine called Geoffrey...
