Winston, more commonly known as Eagle due to have the personality of one, was one of the many engines from the Midland Region who arrived on Sodor to help with the construction of the NWR though, unlike the others, he was one of the few to stay behind and become part of their fleet. Originally one of the Main Line engines, with the arrival of more bigger and stronger engines, he was transferred to the Arlesburgh Branch, mainly handling mine trains.

During World War II, though, he left Sodor in order to help with the war effort on the Mainland. Sadly, it's believed he was destroyed in an ammunition explosion caused by an ammunitions van which was set on fire in 1944.

Originally a FR D5, he was involved in an accident during the railway's construction. It was decided he was to be given a rebuild, being a cross between an L&YR Class 28 and Johnson 3F.
