The Fat Controller was waiting for them there.

"Silence!" he called.

"Now, I have an important letter to read from a little girl who is five years old."

"Dear Thomas and all the engines, please can I meet you? Me and My friends have heard all about you, but they don't think you are real. But they say they would like to meet you if you were. You can come to my house for tea, but my mommy says there aren't any railway tracks to our house. Can you come to the station instead? Thank you very much."

"As you can tell by this letter, the people of England," he said, "read about us in the books but they do not think we are real-"

"Shame!" shrieked Percy.

The Fat Controller glared, and Percy subsided.

"Since they are so many people who like to meet you all," he continued, "So I am taking my engines to England to show them."

"Hurrah! Hooray!" whistled all the engines. The Fat Controller held his ears.

"Silence!" he bellowed. "We start the day out in a week from today at 8 am. Meanwhile, as these engines have kindly come from the Other Railway to take your place, you will show them your work tomorrow."
