I've glued the pieces together after trying and failing and making it worse in my attempt to shape and smooth the thick foam...So yea I just decided to stick it together and try and shape it from there... I had to tie it to a tube so it would stick in the right shape and I accidentally missed a few spots with the string cover so now it's got tyre marks over it... Oh well, it's worn
It very quickly went downhill but I'm just going to continue and see if I an end up with something that looks remotely like an automail arm
