Description Please don't look at it if you were unable to play/finish The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword yet. Otherwise this concept might spoil you about the story.

Things I can sure mention is that my concept is most of all based on elements found in the game, of course with some little details added by my personal hand. xD Oh! And if you were able to see some manga illustrations which show another goddess concept... ignore them I tell you. They are completely pointless to me and are as fictional as my own Zelda theory. Only the creators of Zelda know the truth about the whole story. Over and out. B-I

Thanks for comments and favs!^^

Critique is mostly welcome from all those who love Zelda and questions about how the hell I came up with this madness are also quite welcome. But be prepared that all my answers may contain spoilers for you... whatever. OTL

I am glad you enjoy it! I really put much time and love into this one. It's not simply to fit into my own theory, but to give fans some good concept of her, because I think the one given by that silly Skyward Sword manga was way to simple and not worth a real goddess.

Yeah, the manga version is a bit simple. I think it would okay as a human version of herself, but yours just blows it away!

Thank you! I am really glad you enjoy my concept! I guess they didn't even try. People who buy the rights to draw a manga on a story they didn't created usually only do it for the money, not to satisfy the fans or do the story some justice.

As much as I love Skyward Sword and Goddess Hylia, one can't help but wonder where Din Nayru and Farore went. Since-- technically those three are the ones that left behind the Triforce --

Yet Goddess Hylia is embellished all over with Triforce designs.
... My brain hurts :'D

On another note, man i freaking LOVE how you are so accurate with designs you make from games! And they're all really really well drawn!

Split-Heart In reply to Reedpiper [2012-07-13 23:05:47 +0000 UTC]

Well you know I am not sure if it is that obvious, but just in case I worked on a theory for that. Not sure if you wanna hear that, but in my theory there was an era without an existing world. The three creators Din, Nayru and Farore formed a world by using their supreme power just as everybody knows it from the legend told in Ocarina of Time. When their job was almost done, they left behind the Triforce and (maybe to a certain surprise) remnants. Gods/Semi-Gods such as Hylia, the goddess of Time or the Fierce Diety (yeah I count that one as a god, another long story). While Hylia was certainly special, sine the three creators made her become the keeper of the Triforce. That was not a bad idea, knowing that Gods were unable to use it anyway. The other remnants along with Hylia became rulers and peaceguards of the worlds harmony and balance. Folks like human, hylian, gorons etc. existed to form the world as they pleased, while their gods protected and leaded them. (for example Gerudos had the goddess of sands)

Hope your brain doesn't hurt so much now.
It's like greek mythology u know? Cx

Beautiful! Hylia looks so regal and powerful, and it's nice to see Zelda's purple bangles having a sort of theme on the outfit as well. And although the wings are on the Goddess Statue already, they are a little cliched and I think Hylia would look better without it. But very, very lovely anyway.

Split-Heart In reply to PACHARCHAR [2012-07-13 19:38:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I used the bracelets, because they are made of divine metal and I thought it would be the only suitable material for a goddess to wear.
I think there is a good reason why Hylia got wings shown on the statue. Usually there are no other creatures that have wings like those in the Zelda series. (exept Rito's who are birds, but only thanks to the scale of a dragon) Through my personal fiction she got wings to show her divinity, but actually she's just a bird in a cage, because she will never be really able to use them.

Damn, I really, really, REALLY love it when people draw Hylia (and NOT the way she looked like in the SS Prequel manga because that was kinda boring and people need to expand their imaginations), because I really love artistic interpretations/redesign stuff.

Ok, so first off, I really love that you included that weird feathery veil/head hat thingy that you could see in the statue (cos when I first saw it, I wasn't sure if it was her air or a veil or what). But it looks great the way you did it. It's also awesome that you included the purple bracelet thingies Zelda wore (and added matching jewelry for it!). Now I'm wondering what kind of shoes she's wearing. Also, wings. Hell yea! Damn wings are awesome!

I betcha she was one freakin tall goddess lady. So she could intimidate Demise a bit (Zelda's so tiny!!! XD)

<3

Split-Heart In reply to Jujulica [2012-07-13 17:31:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!
Pfft, the manga was completely pointless. I mean, if there was already a hero named Link in the past who got the completed Master Sword, than there would have been no problem to defeat Demise. Only saying that makes clear that those who drew the manga did not play Skyward Sword!!

Oh yeah, the feathery veil was quite a challange. I didn't only use those pictures of the statue you can see on the concept, I also walked around the statue in the game over and over again! xDD I was quite sure that it was a veil after looking at the statue for a long time. However, I think that she got shoes similiar to those Zelda had in the game, but I would probably give her a way more feminine design. With small heels, slender shape and stuff. o u o

And yeah she was quite tall. As in my fanfiction she is not as tall as the "other" gods in her era, but still taller than for example human of that time. Roan who was born in her era, was also a very tall man... she liked that about him... that's all I can say, but maybe it's a hint for you. > u >
Who knows?

Just thought I'd butt my head in to mention that 1) The mangaka who made the Manga are the OFFICIAL NINTENDO MANGAKAS. They are endorsed by Nintendo. 2) they got to play the game early in order to produce this manga in time for the release of Hyrule Historia 3) Eiji Aonuma works side by side with the mangakas on the story, so Nintendo did have in it.

Wheter it makes sense or not or seems like retcon depends on each person, but I just thought I'd mention that the ss prequel manga is NOT a fanmanga and is official Nintendo material, though Eiji Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto condone the mangaka to vary the story a bit in their manga adaptations so people have something "different to read" or something like that LOL. That said, I like the simplicity of the manga!Hylia, but I really like your take on the design. It's the only one I've truly liked so far. I enjoy redesigns but some designs I've seen are so far out it looks like a original character than a rendition of a prestablished character xD

Split-Heart In reply to Ferisae [2012-08-05 06:35:28 +0000 UTC]

I actually know that the manga was officially created and released by people who actually baught the license to do so from Nintendo. Jet the manga story (totally ignoring the art and anything) is more than irritating for the gamer. Knowing that very important events were simply ignored within the manga makes me facepalm everytime. Like when the hell did Hylia create Fi/Phi? Why did Link die in the end of the Manga and not Hylia? (as mentioned in the game, she had to be REBORN as a human, due to the fact that she got INJURED in the end of the battle after sealing demise and then again, why did she get injured in the first place? Isn't she an immortal divine being? So probably she had to give up her immortality and divinity for a certain reason? Could that be? Who knows, because neither the manga nor Nintendo itself would have probably thought about it...)

What I want to say with this concept is, that the character even though we've got that prequel through the manga release, is still full of mistery. I really do not feel at any point satisfied with what the manga showed to the gamers. I was terribly disappointed by that "simple" story (not mentioning the art), that I just had to ignore it completely and create my own story of Hylia in the end. (the relationship of Hylia and my OC Roan... is purely random btw, it's to compensate the lack of romance in Zelda games, even though I was suprised by SS to be more like a love story than any other Zelda game before! Compared to OoT for example. Like seriously, giving Link a selfish reason to do what he was forsted to do, like saving the world, really touched my heart! I want to see more games where Link has a personal reason to fight on, then simply doing what he is told by others.)

Also, thank you very much for liking my design. I put a lot of time and effort into it and your comment was most welcome.

Ferisae In reply to Split-Heart [2012-08-05 18:24:02 +0000 UTC]

It must be because I'm a very relaxed person but even though the story had contradictions to the game it didn't bug me so much and I actually found it could be an interesting AU. It's just a manga, not 100% canon since they are told to take liberties, you take it or you leave it, never together. For me, the Zelda mangas are entertaining AUs or side stories, but I never took them to be 100% faithful adaptations of the games since, yeah, Aonuma told them especifically since Ocarina of Time to deviate the story to make it an "interesting read". Himekawa originally wanted to make a very faithful adaptation of OOT but they were told to not do that. I don't mind either way, I like the little headcanons/fanons they input here and there, and I never read them thinking "oh it must be so like the game!" That's why I do like the mangas, I take them as their own separate thing.And I love the art. I'm a sucker for the art. XD;

About those questions. I have a simple reply: Imagination. It was meant to be a short, 32 page addendum for Hyrule Historia, and nothing more. They couldn't put everything in. That's where you, the reader, come in and make up your own interpretation. Me for instance, when having the same questions, assumed she created Fi a little after the scene with the dead Hero and later on she gave up her own divinity and died as well since her body couldnt resist the stress of the struggle with Demise put it through. That however, is my fan interpretation, because they leave it open. It's not canon, no, but it's food for the mind and I love thinking of all the possibilities. Nintendo has made it a point to mention that some things they purposefully dont explain because they like to see what the fans come up with or to leave it open for other iterations of the franchise. Why did Hylia get injured if she was a goddess? Why indeed? I'm sure fans can cook up interesting reasons, like maybe being a goddess didn't make her completely invincible and because Demise himself was a force to be reckoned with. He is the harbringing or apocalypse after all, and well, Hylia wasa goddess but I don't think she was up to the level of Nayru, Farore, and Din. She was more like a "subgoddess" if you want to look at it that way (I'd like to think something along the lines of Lord Jabu Jabu, Valoo, etc, regarding her goddess status). Zelda mythology doesnt have to match real world mythology at the end of the day. Their gods don't have to behave like our gods so being a goddess may not have made Hylia untouchable. Also remember Zelda mentioned that she CHOSE to be reborn as a human also because gods cannot use the triforce and Zelda/Hylia wanted to use the triforce to beat Demise since, even as a goddess, she didnt have enough power to kill him, only seal him temporarily but since the seal was weak, she had to put herself to sleep to keep it while her chosen champion went and used the triforce instead after he proved himself worthy.

Zelda is just so full of mysteries and open ends, I think that's what I love most about them. XD They just give so much space for poeple to make up their own stories or ideas ggjhfglkjfg I love it! I think the mangas are the same way. They are official Nintendo material with the story looked over and worked with Eiji Aonuma, but its kept purposefully different to make it more interesting since translating a game 100% to a written story could be too boring, gotta mix it up! It's the same thing with that ooooooooold comic in an oooooooold nintendo power issue. Endorsed by Nintendo, produced by Nintendo, BUT the LTTP comic was changed up a bit to make it a more enjoyable read even though it deviated from the game.

As for satisfaction. I was satisfied for what it was. I had a "Notbad.jpg" attitude at the end. I didn't expect anything grand, especially when the game was around the corner and Nintendo and Himekawa on their twitter gave the impression that they didn't want to spoil much by releasing that manga which was why they kept it deliberately vague and short. I found the little implied story interesting to the point reading a fanfic building up on it, ot elaborating in it, would be a must for me. I took some things and dropped some. I don't know, I just focus on the things I did like. I didnt agree with the way the Master Sword was created in the manga, but I did like for instance how the Hero sparked a reltionship with the red loftwing. I grab what I like and run away with it LOL I've also made up my own version of what happened during the war with Hylia and Demise. It doesn't match the manga at all, and plays to the game canon, but like I said, I enjoy the mangas for what they are: Light reading, and use the games if I want to create headcanons or fanfics that are not too far fetched.

I guess that's why I feel a bit bad when people hate on the mangas so much when, if you unlink them from zelda, they are decent XD like any other person I dislike when people use it to say OMFG SHIEK IS MALE CUZ MANGA SAID SO DJFHSDKGJ because I'd hit them upside the head with said manga, but hating on them just because they are "too different" from the games, when standalone they are quite decent.... Each to their own I guess, but their existence doesn't bother me and its not like anyone is forcing me to follow the mangacanon, so if I dont agree with something I'll just stick happily to my game canon LOL

Nintendo are fanboys deep down, they love it when people make up their own stuff and that's why they encourage the mangakas to do that. The rito from Windwaker are based on Himekawa's watarara tribe after all XD but yes, the mangas have their own canon and combining them with the game canon would not be very wise.

ANYWAY now that that's been said. I AGREE SO FRICKEN MUCH FGHFDLKGJ I was so entranced with SS because Link finally had another reason, other than duty, to do all the stuff he does! Zelda and Link's relationship in SS is so precious <3 I wish more Zelda games made Link have deeper relationships with characters. OCarina of Time was super vague since Link barely expressed himself, but at least in Windwaker he had a family, in TP he sort of showed interest toward Midna and Ilia, and in SS, well you know LOL. Too bad they like to keep romance vague so "Fans can choose who to pair Link with" GKJFDHGLKSHFDGJ >:UU!!!! I hope Fuyibayashi (SP?) keeps directing/making games, he's such a hardcore Zelinker and I feel he really adds some spice AND personality to Link even if he has to keep the hints to a minimum . xD

aND YOU ARE VERY WELCOME!

Also, I agree that the comics are really entertaining to read! I most of all enjoyed the Four Swords manga, it's one of my favs! But I don't take them to serious, because they don't follow the games 1 on 1, yet I am so happy to actually have them! A great world like the Legend of Zelda really needs it's own epic mangas, simply for the fanservice of course! ;D

Wind Waker was also really cool! The whole story of Link and his family was just heartbreaking adoreable! We need more of such games!
