Hahaha yeah I once had a book called I,Lucifer by Glen Duncan (my favourite book) and after I read it for the 4th time the binding had fallen apart from the book, the back cover had been torn off, the pages had been wet and dried three times and all the glue binding the pages was falling away!

yeah a few of my discworlds are in similair poor state and my copy of 2010 has been through the mill ...twice

as far as i am concerned jeremey brett is THE holmes to end all holmes
but cumberbatch is a very good modern update off course it helps that he has a script penned by the grand moff
when he has written something i sit up and pay attention cause i know it wil be good
as well as unexpected and barmy

I watched him played Sherlock since I was a toddler, me and my mum used to watch it all the time when I was growing up, if you don't believe me look back at some of my comments on other people's Sherlock pictures where I've put GIANT comments explaining why Jeremey Brett is THE BEST Sherlock!
I also agree with your Cumberbatch opinion there...

oh you dont need to explain to me why he is the best
he is just the best period no other holmes actor comes close to him
soem actors are born for roles to play some just fit that role so perfectly it just is
jermery brett is sherlock holmes ( just like tobey maquire is peter parker ) other actos pretend to be holmes brett is holmes
it helps that i have all brett's holmes series on dvd
its a shame he never was able to finish the series but he left behind the best body of holmes adaption in the canon ever available bar none
im sure you knwo who i mean with grand moff
i stil have to see season 2 of sherlock 2010 btw so if you have seen it no spoilers please
but a study in pink was great
i am actually waiting to watch the great game until i have season 2 then i can watch them all in one big long marathon

of new who i lean to matt smith mostly on the strength of the grand moff's scripts and direction
but also because smith is actually so alien and believable as the doctor
of the classic ones i like 2 4 5 and 7 not neccasarily in that order
