In 2001, Ren and Stimpy began airing reruns on VH1 as Ren and Stimpy Rocks. The show did very well in rating which caught the ratings struggling network Spike TV's attention. Since they were struggling in ratings, Spike TV contacted John K and Spumco (who got the rights of the series back) to make new episodes for the network and thus, the spin off was born. Eric Bauza replaced Billy West as Stimpy due to West refusing to work with John again while John reprised his roles as Ren and Mr. Horse. However despite doing well in ratings, the negative reviews is what got the show canned after just 3 episodes aired with the remaining 3 being released on DVD three years later. Spumco closed down shortly afterwards due to a lawsuit with Carbunkle Cartoons and John K has since become a freelancer.
As for the franchise, APC's bad reception killed any chance at a revival so we're stuck with this as our grand finale to the franchise. Let's just ignore this and consider season 5 of the original series (or season 2 for the more harsher fans) the grand finale.

This show (Mr. Horse's gray fur) SUCKS!!! The writing's terrible and is too random even for the show's standards. The episodes drag on way too much and show why the original series needed the bridging segments in the half hour episodes! The wit of the original series is now replaced by blatant sexual innuendos and terrible gross out humor. Ren went from a jerk that had a moral compass to a full blown pscyopath and Stimpy's even dumber. Even their voices are off! The only remotely tolerable aspect is the animation but even then the terrible content still ruins it!!

For fans of the original, never watch it! Not gonna do rankings since the series is so short.
