Calm is a pitch black space. A hall and a cave. Where you walk slow and steady. Where you know your fate which lies at its end and yet keep moving forward. It’s trust. It’s naivete. It’s as if your eyes are closed. It’s knowing you’ll be okay, even if your life is taken away.

You. Are. Ok.

Right, we’re talking about a cat named Kill.

Kill was a lean light tan cat with draconic black and red wings and eyes of endless shadow. His pelt studded with shards of pure black and head crowned with two curving horns formed from these shards. Kill’s gaze was an endless, encompassing dark, in which you could easily lose yourself by looking too long. Going too deep. Endless, endless, endless.

There’s comfort there. The kind of calmness found in a silent, pitch black room. It feels like sleep. It feels like peace. Eternal rest.

But that precarious peace is one creak away from becoming a nightmare. One whisper or nudge from above, and you realize your lost senses. Panic sets in and you’re lost. You’re in free fall.

What will you do then? Reach out to find your footing? Lash out against the walls and the things moving around you? Slashing both friend and foe, now one and the same when you’re rendered blind to the difference. Can you bring yourself to trust anyone in that state? Could you find your way out? That voice from above follows you still, and when you have nothing else to cling onto, would you trust it? What other option do you have?

Sorry, got a bit carried away there. Let’s refocus…

Kill was cursed with the power to kill, or so he said. Not directly - in fact he’d been stripped of both his claws and strength which would make it easy to do so. No, his curse allowed him to kill the feelings of fear, of love, of worry, of desperation, and of pain - all of it snuffed out from the mind of those under his corruption.

Which then allowed his wise leadership to prevail in the cat’s mind, as he’d claim.

Mind affecting curses are not recommended to use on a cat with a curse such as Kill’s as reaching into his mind only opens up yours to his own control. Looking directly into his eyes was another avenue for his corruption to reach you.

While he was alive, Kill was surely the most controlling pillar in PAIN. He had structured the Heart into a complex for his followers and future followers to stay in, and stay put. It was tall and grew ever more warped and twisted the higher you went - to the point of being unnavigable near its peak. His Heart had rooms and cells to keep cats contained until his curse could convince them to behave. Anyone who dared trying to hurt him would be quickly restrained and killed by his loyal followers. He was untouchable. He made sure of it.

Even as he grew more brazen and bloody, with more and more followers he could count on obeying his command, at the very heart of his character he was a paranoid cat. Deeply aware of the harm others could cause him. Trapped in his own dark room. He dug his mind’s claws into those around them, to save himself from a fate he couldn’t escape.

The power went to his head just like how he went into all his followers’. His reign became brutal near its end. Less guidance, more torment…

Or was he always that way? Only his earliest followers could tell you for sure. But most of them are gone. Lost after his fall. When his own brother tore him down.

Edit: Finally wrote and added lore! I'm not 100% sure about it and may tweak it in the future, especially how the ending flows. But I'm glad I wrote something I'm happy with for now at least.

Drawing Kill this month wasn't in the original plan, but I already did 3 out of the 4 demon/angel PAIN cats so I figured I might as well do them all. Kill has had his design updated along with Free for a while, so I had to get to it eventually anyhow.

also sorry for the uncanny hand-paw but they really do look like that when they actually articulate outside the typical paw shape lol. If only Kill had claws, then it may have turned out a little less cursed? maybe
