“Are you sure you don’t want to try some?”

“Yes” Beluga softly chuckled, “I’m sure.”

“Ah, but come on! Where’s the fun in life if you’re not trying new things?” Blithe held the loaf out towards Beluga. “Just one bite…”

“Find a way to put meat in it or something and maybe I’ll try it.”

“That’s not a bad idea actually, I’ve seen some dragons cut open the bread and put stuff in it.” Blithe finally held the loaf back towards himself. “Alright then, it’s a deal! I’ll get you some bread with meat, and then you have to at least try it! I’ll use like, belugas or something. Maybe penguins or- what else do have up there? Bears? I think I’ve heard bears before.”

“Polar bears? We definitely have those.”

“Yeah…” Blithe looked a bit more thoughtful for a silent moment. “Honestly I think it’d be really cool if you took me to look around the IceWing kingdom – just to see the different dragons and stuff, you know?”

Beluga was a little taken aback from Blithe’s more serious request after his playful one. “Well, I could… I definitely wouldn’t mind, but I can’t now.”

“I know you can’t now, I didn’t mean that… Just a thought.”

“But are you sure there won’t be any trouble with Queen Daybreak? You told me how she is about outsiders.”

“I don’t really care about what Daybreak thinks – it’s not like I’m doing anything bad. I just wanna see the rest of Pyrrhia and that shouldn’t be a crime.” Blithe crossed his arms. “If she considers it one, then I don’t see why I should consider her my Queen.”

Beluga was somewhat shocked by that last statement. It wasn’t exactly something that should be said aloud like that. “Well, uh” Beluga tried to refocus her thoughts. “I think I could ask Queen Permafrost to let you explore around.”

“Sounds nice, if she agrees.” Blithe furrowed his brows, looking doubtful.

“She’s interested in DayWings, so I’m sure I could convince her.”

“At least she won’t jail you up for just talking to me, right?”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I’m her cousin anyway, we used to play around in the snow together when we were little, so I can’t imagine her doing anything worse than maybe hitting me in the face with a snowball.” Beluga smiled as Blithe laughed.

This is way back after the Scorching when the DayWing kingdom still existed on Pyrrhia
As you can probably guess, these two characters are indeed the parents of the IceWing/DayWing hybrid that ends up bringing the animus gene to the IceWing royal family

Blithe is a twilight-born DayWing with no animus power who lives on the outskirts of the DayWing Kingdom. He's probably a baker and doesn't interact a whole lot with the big DayWing towns or whatnot. He's a lot more interested in the outside world and kingdoms.

Beluga is the cousin to that current IceWing Queen, Queen Permafrost. She went to explore a bit more around the border of the DayWing Kingdom, and as per a request from Queen Permafrost, she was also on the lookout to strike a deal with the Queen or some other animus if she could - to possibly give IceWings animus magic. Before she could do that she met up with Blithe, who told her that was probably a bad idea. They ended up becoming friends and hanging out on the occasion Beluga could come visit.

So that's the story I'm going to share so far. I'll definitely have to get to the rest at some point because it gets a lot more dark and dramatic.

Also I'm considering making some sort of contest for people to create the first IceDay hybrid, and I'll pick the best fitting one and make them 'canon'. I'll do it after I have this whole story out, so don't start making one yet.

Random fact I haven't told until now is that DayWing's actually grow wheat and eat bread quite a bit. They also probably eat other plants or fruits, like grapes probably. They are still omnivores and can eat meat though.
