A lot of nuzlocke comics have the pokemon able to talk. It's kind of like when a cartoon has a talking dog or something. XD
The rules say that I can only catch the first pokemon I run into in a place. I already caught a caterpie in viridian forest, so I wasn't allowed to catch a pikachu there after.

I did wonder how you could have been lucky enough to catch a Pikachu if you had to only take the first pokemon you met on that route. It all makes sense now!
