Description
Just finished this piece using Painter X. I'm not sure whether or not I prefer it to Photoshop, purely because photoshop's layering is by far superior, however, Painter's true genius lies in its blending - it's FANTASTIC blending.Well, this is about two D&D characters I had alway wanted to do. I'm a bit disappointed with the colouring, but then again, very first time I used painter

Just using Painter X too. Started with a scanned image and took it into Painter. I find layering hard in Painter (I think that's intended) so I put it in Photoshop, save the layers in a PSD file then import over to Painter - that way it keeps all the layers intact

Now how come we don't see this on the Popular pages?
Your coloring is truely epic in every piece you do

Nice! I think you can add more space to the background to the left. (800x800ish) Opening up the sky a little will make the pic look more effective.
I never used Painter... And run an old photoshop...
But I do hear a lot of people using both programs on one pic.

With Painter you always need to couple it with Photoshop because the layering in Painter is terrible. I always import the PSD from Photoshop with the layers and masks already on.
It's a colossal waste of time.

^_^;
The professional artist technique show-off portion of the magazine Newtype had one of em use both effectively. (Kor/Jpn version of Newtype and a really old issue so can't find it)
What I learned from those articles is that, there are so many different techniques!
I guess everyone has their own...

I'd love to be able to use the programs in the way they do. Think how professional everyone's art would be if they knew the coveted secrets of PS and Painter!

I use painter ix myself for drawing and coloring, but if theres a feature that it doesn't have, I use photoshop.
Very adorable picture by the way. Their poses tell the story of a beautiful friendship.

Aww thanks for that reply, it really put a smile on my face
It's the same with me and painter. I have a love-hate relationship with it - it's layering is horrific so I save it as a PSD, take it into Photoshop, make the layers and masks then go back into Painter. It's a stupid way to do it cause it takes a lot of time.

I wouldn't use photoshop at all if it wasn't for painter's inability (to my knowledge) to do screentones. I have to use photoshop for my manga toning, and such. Thankfully it's pretty simple once you've scanned the image in, since most of the work has already been done before that.
You're welcome. I like putting smiles on peoples faces.

Their outfits look great and I love their hair but the coloring seems a little odd. Maybe it's just my imagination

My colouring is quite poor. I don't have a good grasp of colour theory at all

Nice work here, the composition and poses for your characters that you've used in the image are really well done . (though a bit unclear at some points). Your anatomical work looks quite well though at some points (the shoulders of the 'green' one
seem a bit odd to me personally) you could use a bit more attention
.
The manga style you've used is very nice here , but as a suggestion: try to put some more emphasis on the emotions of your characters, that is what manga is about, emotions, and although it looks nice as it is, with some more emotion in the face but also in the body it probably look better
.
Great work though and the critic wasn't me being mean, just me trying to help
. Hope you aren't bothered by the critic

I love critique, I honestly do. I prefer constructive criticism cause in the end - that's the only way I'll be the best
I really appreciate your comments. Thanks!

I quite like you're style and the coloring is really good (even if you don't like it). I personally like the girl in the front's (orange hair) pose and expression. She looks like she's having a lot of fun

The Bat Sword (tm) means certain doom. That's why you'll never hear any character demand that someone unsheath the bat sword (tm).

Awww thank you! Hopefully I can get much better at colouring with Painter - I truly think that it is a big improvement in the art area.
I'm using Painter with St. Theakston's at the mo, so I'll be posting that soon too.
