Don't go cold on the scales if you plan to add them. I know it can be rather tedious to draw them, but trust me, it will look so much better if you take the time to add scales
Or fur, it's all up to you

Think I'm going scales, that means I will probably end up using ink because it's good for that kind of texture ^.^
