K, explanation? I don't think it should be needed. Simply put, back about maybe 4 years ago? I went to a sonic forum. And in the art forum there was nothing but: "OMG I SUCK!" or "JOIN MY CONTEST AND DRAW ME SHIT! THEN I MIGHT MAKE A PRIZE FOR YOU WHICH IS A CRAPPY SPRITE EDIT!"But EVERYONE was fishing for compliments. Back then I took the internet seriously, but I should have totally agreed with them.
And it's not even just fishing for compliments. There's that thing where they belittle themselves to make it look like they're praising other people. That doesn't work and it starts the cycle much similar to compliment fishing.

If you try to fish for compliments once, maybe you're just feeling insecure. And that's okay - we all do at some point. But if you do all the time, you either like being told that you're wrong or you have basically no self esteem at all. And it's typical to want to say stuff like, "Hey, it's at least better than my picture of -insert person's name here from whatever show/anime/etc.- I drew the other day!" and sometimes it does make people feel better, but it could also be insulting to the person who drew it if they look at your picture and it really does suck. It'd hurt their self esteem, you know. Hard to explain, I dunno, but that's another opinion of mine.
I don't know. I just want it. And the striped shirt underneath, too.

EXACTLY! It makes the other person feel bad! Like... I had a friend that told me he hated his old stuff. He well I understand now that we all hate our old stuff, well I would look at his stuff ALL of his stuff for insparation. And he tells me it sucks cuz he started his style off from DBZ style. Which is funny cuz I don't see it at all. XD
Well I guess the shirt seems appealing since I tend to just draw a plain shirt with a plain long sleeved shirt. This is what I was wearing at the time I made the comic.

Hypocrite alert - I hate compliment fishers yet I'm guilty of it often. I try to avoid it where I can, though. Basically, if I do say that my stuff sucks, then I truly believe it and I don't care what other people say since it won't change my opinion.

We're all like that at some point in our lives, but like... we grow out of it. We figure out that it doesn't help. But that thing about people like who tell others that they themselves suck, trying to make other people feel good is kinda pointless.
I mean, if they wanna make other people feel good about their art, they compliment them on their good points. My friend was helping me last night do that and added some constructive crit and yanno what? I've been doodling up a storm cuz of that! It made me feel so good about my style!

It's either sprite edits, hedgehogs or cats... if they want to make a fan character at least be creative. I did one back when I was 7 or 8 for a contest, I can't remember, and I surprisingly won for creativity *shrugs* eh I suppose people just do it for popularity.

I'm actually pretty disgusted by other Hedgehogs IN CANON! Except for Amy, whose design is okay (and at least has her quills down) but the personality is shot to hell.
Most adaptations of other species into the Sonic Style tend to 'work'.
