Description
When they returned to the square, Dmitri was there with a bag in each hand. The Zangoose lead them to a door. Underneath the door wafted an odd mix of a pleasant berry smell, and the scent of something burning horribly. Dmitri knocked, then opened the door.A blue, snake-like dragon was twisting around while snapping orders at a Snivy and several Rogues. "Skin that carrot thoroughly, full and complete, oh, who can demonstrate?" he demanded. His assistants were silent which made him grimace.
Soba then realized that there were new arrivals. "Oh, you've got a nice amount," he said. He looked both pleased and slightly stressed. "Good timing, we've run out of-oh-milk, we need more milk. Why don't you find a few teams to help out?"
Leilani sighed. "We'll go with him. Neither of us knows much about cooking," she said.
Soba looked them over. "I'm sure the Sneasel can learn how to cut food," said the Dragonair. "Although you don't look like you can hold a single utensil, so I suppose you can accompany Dmitri, but I want you to find some more teams to help out first."
"Ah, but I believe my friend has a history of being a bit of a cooking hazard. Apparently there was an incident involving a Bidoof."
"Oh yeah," said Ice. "This one time my brother wasn't feeling well. So I caught a Bidoof and stuffed it with berries and gave it to him as a get-well meal. He got really sick."
"How did you cook the Bidoof?" asked Soba.
"Why would I cook it?"
Soba groaned and slapped his snout with his tail. "Cut up some fruit and vegetables and try to make a salad," said Soba as he lead Ice to a counter near the Snivy. "Amanda, please explain to this little savage how cooking works." Soba left to give Dmitri and Leilani a longer list.
"Kay," Ice said.
"Here, we'll use the berries you gathered as well as some of the vegetables from earlier," said Amanda. "Cut the lettuce so the pieces are bite size, cut the berries into smaller pieces, and place them in the bowls. When picking the berries, try not to mix too many flavors and try to keep it from being overwhelming. You can do that, right?"
Ice nodded.
"Good, here's a knife." Amanda handed Ice a long object with a wood handle on one end a blade on the other.
"Is this part of the salad?" asked Ice.
"Yes it is," said Amanda. Ice missed the sarcasm and began to cut apart the handle with her claws. "No! No, no! It's not! I was joking! You use the knife to cut the berries, not your claws."
Ice yawned. "Fine." Ice struggled with gripping the knife in her claws and began chopping. After a while she came to the conclusion that the knife was like an extension of a Slash or Aerial Ace attack, and the job became easier. She soon finished with the lettuce and began examining the berries.
Ice was pleased to find that she had a good amount of Spelon berries and proceeded to cut and dump the berries into the salad bowl. She added some Razz and Tamato berries. Pleased with her masterpiece she turned to Amanda. "Now what?" asked Ice.
"Mix that salad with these," said Amanda. She tossed two long wooden objects to the Sneasel. "When it's mixed Soba will test it."
The Sneasel fumbled with the salad prongs for a while. She tried beating the salad and stirring the salad, which only smashed the berries. She looked around. Another Pokémon who had a salad was tossing the lettuce and berries. Ice began to mimic him until her salad looked mixed. "Finished!" she called.
Soba came over and used a fork to take a sample. As soon as he put the salad in his mouth, his eyes watered, he stopped smiling, and began chewing as fast as he could. By the time he swallowed, tears were staining his uniform and he was shaking.
"I put some of my favorite berries in it!" said Ice.
"Why so many spicy berries?" screamed Soba. He ran to the nearest water he could find and stuck his head into it, only to jerk it out when he realized it was soup, which he promptly spilled. Several Pokémon slipped in the soup and began dropping food everywhere.
"Why did you do?" asked Soba.
"They're the best berries, and Lei said you probably have high standards for food."
"You've overwhelmed my pallet and caused most of our food to fall onto the floor. We'll have to start from scratch!"
"The salad's still good."
"Get out. I'd rather have Dmitri helping me for a thousand years than to have you here for another minute."
"Can I have the salad?"
"Whatever gets that accursed thing out, but bring back the bowl when you're done."
Ice scampered out with her salad and sat in a corner eating it until Leilani and Dmitri arrived with some milk. Leilani was shocked to see her outside, and asked, "What happened in there."
"Soba didn't like my salad. He also said he'd rather cook with Dmitri forever than have me in the kitchen," she replied.
"Really?" asked Dmitri. His eyes were shining.
"Yeah, he said he'd rather have you than me."
"This is great! Hold on Soba, we're going to have fun!" Dmitri ran into the kitchen, knocking Leilani off in the process.
"I say we call this another learning experience," said a slightly dazed Leilani.
"Kay," said Ice.
