Clair stood perfectly still on her left leg, inhaling and exhaling to the rhythm of the ticking of her gears. She had heard what Pack said, and the Stunky had a point. Why were they on this battlefield when so many of them didn’t know moves outside of what they hatched with? She didn’t fully understand why Violette and Arthur’s trainer couldn’t go. It was something entirely trainer related, and she didn’t have the ability to turn a trainer’s words into something she could fully comprehend. Neither did any of the others, so this was one part of their trainers that would remain a mystery.

The Primal Hoothoot quickly switched legs. She needed to find power within herself, so she could protect Kennar, Ray, and the others. Time. The course of events, and domain of a legendary that many had forgotten long ago. Stretching yet unseen into the future and going back into the cloudy past. Something ancient.

She felt a power from within her begin to reach out to her surroundings. It coiled around nearby rocks. She tilted and turned her face to the sky, concentrating on sending the energy outside of her slowly upwards.

Clair half opened her eyes. Bright cyan light was surrounding several rocks in the area. She gave a gleeful hoot, and the rocks fell back to the ground. She could lift rocks, but that wasn’t any good here if she couldn’t attack with them. She took off and scanned the ground for something to use as target practice. She found a patch of burnt grass that looked like it’d be a good mark. Clair circled back and landed several feet away from her target.

She was on both legs now, with her steel talons firmly gripping the earth. Clair concentrated on the energy within her and began muttering, “time, past, earth, sky” to herself. She felt the energy flow out to the surrounding rocks and raised them up. First she moved the rocks to form a triangular shape in the air, with the wide part by her head and the tip pointing upward like a raised beak. She unfolded both of her wings and arched them forward to the best of her ability while leaning towards her target, executing the attack.

The front rock briefly moved upward, then curved downwards and sped up as it headed for the target. The other rocks followed the first one’s path and gained speed as it did. There were a few loud thuds, followed by a cracking noise. Clair flew to her target and looked it over. The rocks were piled in place on the burnt grass, some digging into the soft soot and dirt. One rock had landed on the others and cracked.

Kennar had heard the noise and walked towards her. He stroked Clair’s side then looked at her and said, “Congratulations, I think that’s Ancient Power.”

Clair gave a content hoot.
