Description Another Glaceon pic.

Back at ACen ~AkiraxShimizu and I hit a point where we had looked at just about everything and the only thing we had left to do was wait for ~booklover160 and another friend to get all their autographs. So we did this unofficial art trade where we drew each other with our favorite Eeveelution.

What I liked about the pic: Glaceon came out better, I think I did pretty good with her hands and the anatomy.

What I didn't like: Glaceon's back legs are bent weird, I'm still not fond of how I draw profile faces...actually the whole pose looks kind of awkward to me, and you can't see the awesomeness of her hat well.

Glaceon and all other Pokemon related things belong to Satoshi Tajiri and Nintendo

You did a lot of the critique yourself! My suggestion would actually be to blend the colors together better so the coloring is more consistent. :] As far as the profile goes, those things are a pain to work with. x_x Those just take practice and some studying of photos and people.

Good point. I think I'll break out my color blender next time I do colored pencil.

Scanners aren't usually friendly with keeping blended color either. x_x At least mine haven't been. Blah technology!

I found a tutorial that had some tips on getting scanned pics to look more like the original, and I'm pretty sure I used that with this pic. Plus, I think this was drawn after I became obsessed with using different colors...so it's very likely I neglected blending.

This is adorable!

I don't think her back legs are bent weird...it looks like she's swinging them and they're mid swing which adds more

I think your biggest problem with profile faces is the eye. Besides that, it look's great.

Thanks, and thanks so much for all the faves and comments!

Yeah, putting the eye in the right place is an issue, that and the forehead.

So cute! I love it~! >u<

I think the anatomy on me (haha that sounds so weird to say) looks great. Everything is proportionate and I have to give credit to you for that because getting everything in proportion is very difficult. The face profile is tricky to work with so don't be hard on yourself. Take pictures of your own side profile and draw what you see and take note on how those curves are shaped around the eyes and mouth/chin especially. There are some tutorials out there that are pretty handy. This one I think is a good one to start off with [link]

And the Glaceon does need some work but considering we didn't have any reference pics to work with this is pretty dang good. I'd suggest looking at pictures of foxes to get their body shape down since that's what the Eeveeloutions are basically based off of.

Thanks for faveing it and commenting!

I'll look at your site.
My face has the most boring shape ever, so I'm not sure if it'll help, but I'm sure I can dig up a ton of profile pictures if I look through my mom's photo, she takes soooo many.

That's what my friend suggested. Although a part of me is hesitant to do that, because some Pokemon artists reference other animal anatomy so much that it looks less like a Pokemon and more like a weirdly colored version of the animal.

You're welcome! <3

lol Your mom's photos sure will come in handy then :'D

Hm, then why not look at the official artwork for Pokemon? Practice coping the set pose they have and then turn it about in your mind then draw out what you picture for a profile and such. This is so you can avoid the 'looks more like an animal now than Pokemon' thing.

Yep.

Oh wait, the Anime. The art in the Anime tends to be close to the official art. Next time I draw a Pokemon, I'll look for episodes of the Anime that feature a lot of that Pokemon....I knew that show was good for something.

Right the anime, a perfect place to get various poses on a certain pokemon. Nice thinking there! That'll be extremely helpful ^_^

Yeah, although it won't be much good with some of the Black and White Pokemon, since not all have made an appearance.

Hmm, I think as for the back legs, since Eevees are kinda like cat fox dog things, you should try to draw them like those animals. Like, let's see. Like [link] or something?

Otherwise, I think the anatomy of the person looks great, and so does the profile face. The hands and arms are also especially nice.

I'd say the Glaceon looks like it's sticking its neck out a little, though, which is a little weird. Unless it's doing that to poke the person's finger, haha.

Oh my gosh my first comment, thanks so much!

Good point, although I was more refering to the fact that the back feet are farther forward than the upper leg, making it look like the Glaceon's sliding forward.

Oh thanks. I still think I should practice profiles more.

Oh really? I didn't think it looked that way.

SAmaryllis In reply to SpringDragonfly [2011-07-11 05:54:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh, really? I didn't really notice that. I think it looks pretty normal? D: It almost looks like Glaceon's going into "playful dog" mode, with the back up and front down and stretched.

Hmm, well, usually I think of dogfoxcat things with shorter necks, but I don't actually own any or see any that often, so I dunno. D:

Maybe, I'm not sure.

I talked with someone else about this, and the Pokemon anime could be useful for references too. They stick to the original designs closely and with battles you'll see a lot of different poses.
