Creature Type: Bird. Mock human-bird hybrid.

Family Species: Garuda

Species: Harpo`s; Garuda-Harpy

Element type: Wind and rock

Beast Description: A large humanoid bird type creature. This species sports a human face, chest, and torso, while the rest of its body is birdlike. The beast sports two large wings, each of which are equal in length to its body. Two finger-like appendages protrude from the wrist joint of each wing, and are used to help it grip stone and wood so that it can climb. Two elongated fingers form the last area of the wing, and are used to support the extra weight of the feathers. Downy feathers grow along the hips to the thighs, and are used to keep the genetalia protected and warm. Legs are structured as a mix of human and bird, meaning that they are unusually long due to proportions. Each foot sports three toes - two thick ones face the front, while a thinner third toe points backwards. Legs, feathers, and claws are primarily black, but are known to have flecks of gold or red for coloration.

Color of the skin is dependant on area, implying that these species attempt to mimic the races of humans. This breed sports humanoid molars but sharp incisors, dense hair, and long ears which are usually covered in down. Eyes are somewhat larger than that of a human, and are usually yellow or green in color.

Behavior: Going by looks, the Harpo`s appears to be a male Harpy. This is not the case. Harpo`s are in truth a unique species of Garuda, and only appear in male form. They are flightless due to the density of their bones and feathers, making them land based hunters only. Their evolution makes them the ideal male equivalent of a Harpy. Hence, the two species live alongside each other, eliminating the need to seek out humans in order to reproduce.

Despite their humanoid structure, they typically travel on all fours. Their wings are built similar to that of a humans arm, allowing them to crawl and climb much like a man would. They feed on small reptiles, rodenta, amphibians, and bones. They have also been known to eat salt rich mineral deposits, and wild berries.

Bachelor Harpo`s will spend most of their time in open fields, where they can easily be spotted by Harpies. While in the fields, they will hunt and devour snakes and mice. They are known for being fiercely territorial after finding food while living as bachelors. Upon being spotted by a Harpy, the Harpo`s allow themselves to be captured and carried to the mountains. Once there, they will spend their lives hunting in the caves, mating, and caring for their young. They will lose their hostility towards other male's at this time, and only become violent when their young are under threat. A common threat stance revolves around a Harpo`s standing full height, and flailing their wings in hopes of scaring off an enemy. If that doesn't work, they will kick, scratch, and bite relentlessly until the threat I either killed, or chased off.

The natural enemies of Harpo`s include Lamia, Basilisk, and dragons - among any other species that battles with the Harpies.

Breeding: Harpo`s are a free breeding species, meaning that they will mate with any willing female in order to sire young. They do not mate for life, but are known to select favored females and only give attention to them for breeding and otherwise. This species is very much like a human man when it comes to sex, meaning that they tend to be passionate and willing to entertain females and themselves for hours. Given that they are an all male species, they have evolved specifically to mate with Harpies - or human women if necessary. Usually only 30% of sired young wind up being Harpo`s, hence the need for constant reproduction.

How often a Harpo`s will mate is dependant on health, age, and population. This species will stop breeding upon finding threat of overpopulation, but will continue to care for and protect their young without hesitation.

Conditions for Breeding: Typically, Harpo`s require little persuasion when it comes to mating. The only known reasons for them to turn down the attention of a female is illness, threat of overpopulation, or a gruge. A Harpo`s will not mate with a Harpy that they were previously harassed or attacked by, unless said Harpy manages to establish a sense of trust. The only other time that a Harpo`s will not mate takes place when they already have young to care for, as they can only guard one nest at a time.

Such things aside, the Harpo`s are willing to mate with any accepted female.

Gender Differences: Harpo`s are a male only species, hence there can be no gender differences.
