Monster Class:

Vegetative

Basic Description:

Vegetative class monsters are, quite literally, plants that have undergone a form of evolution which has enabled them to behave much like regular animals. This class of monsters consists of a variety of intelligent plant-forms, ranging from types that produce vegetables, nuts, fruits, leaves, or even just flowers. Defined as either soft bodied or hard bodied, depending on whether or not certain areas of the body are covered in bark, no two Vegetative monsters are guaranteed to be alike. Even if they are of the exact same genus and produce the same form of consumable.

SOFT BODIED monsters are typically small, and resemble ferns, grasses, or various types of flower clusters. They typically have small areas of root clusters which allow them to anchor themselves to the ground, along with a variety of tendril type appendages which allow them to move around and grasp various objects within reach. Many Soft Bodied Vegetative monsters will have small heads, which are rarely any bigger in size than a baseball. All members of this group lack teeth, but instead, sport a beak - which may or may not contain a jagged texture. This group is considered to be frail, as a result of how easily the various aspects on the body can be punctured or crushed. Despite this, they heal rapidly, and are perfectly capable of protecting themselves via their beaks.

HARD BODIED monsters are usually moderately sized, and can be compared to trees or certain forms of other plant life. This group is known for having longer, thicker roots, which are used both for anchoring into the ground, and walking along the ground. Some individuals have even been noted to have grown root structures that legitimately resemble legs, meaning that they can literally chase other living beings, and perform more specialized forms of climbing. A majority of the body is covered in something along the lines of bark, with the only acceptation being the aspects of the body that act as tendrils or as a means of producing leaves or other such consumables. Many members of this group have more defined heads, with structures that have formed to make them resemble some other forms of life. A few have been said to have 'teeth', which consist of wooden structures found within the beak. These teeth are known to detach and act as painful splinters when the monster bites someone or something.

The body classifications aside, most Vegetative monsters are described as being plants that have developed a means of mimicking other forms of life. Most monsters of this group only mildly resemble basic plants, looking more like alien creatures that one might find in science fiction films. Often times individuals - regardless of body type -have a number of soft tendrils, which may or may not sport leaves. These tendrils usually act as a means of moving around or grasping other objects, so as to allow an individual to go from point A to point B without the need of human aide. Such has allowed these creatures to increase in number far faster than most immobile plants, considering they no longer rely on other creatures to transport their reproductive seeds.

Level of Intellect:

Under Debate
While many would argue that monsters of the Vegetative class are highly intelligent due to having been around them, the various forms of scientists who have been working to determine the overall intelligence levels of these monsters have yet to come to a conclusion. This being because of the inability to determine where the line between Botany based smarts and Biology based knowledge can be drawn. It is argued that in terms of these monsters literally being highly adaptive plants has granted them an above-human form of intellect, while from the standards of many Biologists, these creatures are hardly smarter than the typical domesticated canine.
Overall, those outside of these fields who legitimately raise these monsters, do believe that they have at least a human level of intelligence, due to their behavior. It has been documented that these monsters bond with one another, and with those whom care for them. While being incapable of mimicking human speech, they still produce a wide array of noises. Many of these sounds are still being sorted out in order to determine their meaning, but, there are many universal sounds for "Recognition", "Joy", "Sadness", and "Pleasure" which have been documented upon every genus that has been found thus far. As such, most official papers will define these monsters as having "Child levels" of intellect.

Level of Rarity:

Common - Rare
While most forms of Vegetative class monsters can be found virtually anywhere and purchased for relatively small sums of money, there are specific genus groups that are considered rare, as a result of how few of them have been found in comparison to other groups. Sometimes color can be used as a means of defining a monster of any class as rare, while other times, it is the breed itself that is considered rare due to low population.

Lifespan Estimate:

10 - 350 years, depending on levels of appropriate care and genus type
This estimate is taken into account based upon the estimated time-span of humans being a max of around 275 years.

Habitat Type:

Greenhouse
Considering the basic requirements of monsters found in this class revolve around having a warm environment, good levels of humidity, and easy access to water and nutritious soil, greenhouses are considered the best place to raise creatures of the Vegetative class. Shelves are not required, and pots are typically only used as a means of transporting such monsters over long distances so as to assure that they have continuous access to food and water. Luckily, these creatures are not prone to behaving aggressively towards one another, meaning that many distinct genus' of this group can be safely housed in the same space without fear of issues.

Care Requirements
:

Considering that this form of monster is literally plant based, they are fairly easy to look after. Vegetative class monsters do not require physical food in order to gain nutrition, given that they can do a majority of this through their skin and roots. The minimal requirements to care for these monsters revolves around keeping the temperature inside of the greenhouse above 40 degrees Fahrenheit at all times, as well as ensuring that there is always a means of accessing water. The soil must also be tilled every so often so as to allow easier access to nutrition. Such is all that it will take to keep these monsters alive, although these bare minimums will not prevent Vegetative monsters from growing depressed due to lack of contact.
Just as household pets require physical stimulation in order to be kept at ease, many forms of Vegetative monster require hands on attention in order to be kept happy. Something as simple as a pet on the head, or hand-feeding specially made treats, can be all that it takes to assure a continuous state of trust. As some added encouragement in physical contact, it has been proven that the more one bonds with a monster of this group, the more likely they are to be offered certain forms of highly desired consumables.

SEEDING
Specifically where planting and growing these monsters from reproductive seeds in involved, there is often much more care required. The soil must be kept moist at all times, and the temperature of said soil can be no less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit in order to assure the ideal chances of a seed going on to produce a living monster. Ensuring that these needs are taken into account will increase the likelihood of a Monster Breeder - or a typical gardener - being able to produce multiple generations of any and all desirable monsters.

Consumable Type:

Edible
Consumables obtained from this class of monster will be considered edible, whether they have been processed or not. Considering that toxic specimen have yet to be discovered, it is safe to state that any and all acquired consumables can be safely consumed as soon as they are acquired.

List of Consumables:

- Edible Leaves
- Edible Fruits
- Edible Roots
- Juice Packets
- Edible Nuts
- Nutritious Sap

Description of Consumables:

Edible Leaves) A type of leaf acquired from virtually all known specimen of Vegetative class monsters. These leaves, while coming in a variety of sizes, shapes, textures, and flavors, are all completely edible and provide high levels of fiber. Ideal for eating when one wishes to go through a two week cleanse without the fear of depriving their bodies of essential nutrients, these leaves have become a popular additive to basic salads. Albeit, they have also been used as additives to specific batches of wine, so as to add an extra flare to any present flavors.

Edible Fruits) A form of fruit acquired from certain genus groups of Vegetative class monsters. These fruits are nearly identical in appearance to those found on other plants, but are typically richer in flavor, and contain higher levels of nutrition. Depending on the individual monster and the genus group they hail from, the fruits may be considered "Apples", "Oranges", "Berries", or other such types of fruit. HOWEVER, unlike with common plant based fruits, these object do not house seeds that are meant to act as a means of reproduction. Rather, they house solid packets of condensed juice, which can be collected and offered to other monsters as a flavorful treat. Such can also make these fruits safer for small children to eat, because a lack of hard seeds reduces the chances of choking. Especially given that the shell covering these housed Juice Packets will dissolve after only a short period of time when exposed to saliva.

Edible Roots) A material acquired only from certain genus groups of Vegetative class monsters. These roots are typically identical in coloration and texture to most other root-themed foods, such as carrots, potatoes, or beets - but they will generally be smaller, and rich in flavor. Unlike with typical vegetables, though, these edible roots do not grow in direct soil. Rather, they tend to grow from special chambers along the back or underside. Such is how some individuals appear to be covered in vegetation, for this is a result of multiple roots growing within their bodies - the leaves and stems being left uncovered, so as to create a mane. Due to their naturally small size but abundance of flavor, most of these vegetables have been used to make a variety of foods, because they require little preparation and are naturally high in nutrition. They can also be used as a means of encouraging the young ones to 'eat their carrots'.

Juice Packets) A secondary material that is acquired only from the genus groups of Vegetative monsters that produce fruit. These small, soft pods are found within the Edible fruits, and take the place of what would have been reproductive seeds had they been found in natural plants. These pods contain thick, highly concentrated deposits of fruity fluid. The shell on these pods is surprisingly sturdy, but dissolves within seconds upon being submerged in water. Being naturally excessive in flavor, these pods are difficult to consume straight, and are often added to water so as to create rich fruit juices. As such, any juice products made with these items are believed to be better for consumption than juices made from manufactured fruit juice concentrates, because they are lower in sugar, while containing more flavor.

Edible Nuts) A dense substance that is acquired from certain genus groups found within the Vegetative monster class. These nuts, while small and packed with flavor, offer only a small amounts of nutrition while acting as a natural appetite suppressant. Such has made them a go-to snack among those with eating addictions, because they needn't worry about the chance of accumulating high amounts of weight - and at the same time, it lessens the urge to eat. Albeit, such also makes it the alternate to a healthy option to those who are dieting and seeking to lose weight.

Nutritious Sap) A sugary and flavorful fluid that can be acquired from all known specimen found within the Vegetative monster class. This sap, however, is considered rare, because these monsters only produce it as a gift for other individuals who they feel strong affection towards. Such makes it considerably valuable, because of the scarce production. Due to its unique flavor and high sugar content, this sap is often used to make syrups as well as acting as an alternative to man-made sugar products, meaning that it can be found in more expensive brands of cereal and flavored candies.

Genus Types:

- Furne (Fern type)
- Vinel (Vine type)
- Stemurl (Grass type)
- Trestrus (Tree type)
- Tuberr (Root type)

Genus Type Descriptions:

Furne) A fairly common form of Vegetative class monster, known for sporting multiple long tendrils, along with a long neck which supports the head. Every limb connects to a center point, being a body that is shaped somewhat like a gourd. Small clusters of roots can be found underneath the body, which act as a means of connecting to the soil once the monster falls into a state of rest. While most nutrients are legitimately absorbed from directly sunlight, certain salts need to be collected through the roots, which makes them essential for staying alive. Believed to be a specially adapted form of fern due to the curled nature of a newborns tendrils, along with the appearance of the leaves that tend to grow along the neck and in other such locations, it comes as no surprise that this genus is named after said form of plant life. Typically a soft-bodied group.
Produces: Edible Leaves; Nutrutious Sap
Sub-Genus types) Ostriche Furne; Polypody Furne; Horsetail Furne; Kiribia Furne

Vinel) A common form of Vegetative class monster, known for having a frame that somewhat resembles that of a snake. Multiple long tendrils make up the body, and tend to be relatively stiff - even if not covered in bark. A variety of smaller tendrils grow from the longer ones, and often wrap around the body. Of the 30 or so tendrils that can be found, only 10 of which will be used as a means of grasping objects, or moving around. The rest simply act as a body support, and produce leaves, flowers, and fruits. Within the longest tendrils, the roots are kept. Individuals of this species have evolved to hide, which allows them so sift soil and water through their vine-like bodies for the sake of collecting any desperately needed nutrients. This is typically a hard-bodied group.
Produces: Edible Leaves; Juice Packets; Edible Nuts; Nutritious Sap
Sub-Genus types) Kiwi Vinel; Grapee Vinel; Vatermeelon Vinel; Squish Vinel; Tomata Vinel

Stemurl) A common form of Vegetative class monster, known for having an unusually short neck, along with dozens of thin tendrils which support the large cluster of roots that it carries. Up to six specialized tendrils act much like stems of typical grass, and can produce the nuts that this breed is most well known for growing. Along with this, thicker but more mobile tendrils act as the means of excreting the nutritious sap that it can produce when especially attached to someone. The smallest Genus to be found among this class of monsters, they also reproduce quickly if left unchecked. As such, they can quickly become a handful. Soft bodied group.
Produces: Edible Nuts; Nutritious Sap
Sub-Genus types) Barlee Stemurl; Rie Stemurl; Cogone Stemurl; Cattail Stemurl

Trestrus) An uncommon form of Vegetative class monster, known for having tendrils that grow only from the upper body, while their roots are thicker and act more like legs. Those of this group will have roots that have formed one or two pairs of legs, in which they use as a means of walking without the need of rendering their tendrils otherwise useless. The body itself will be relatively short and somewhat thin, and covered in a protective layer of bark - much like the roots. Tendrils, on the other hand, will remain soft and flexible. Said tendrils often fan out as a result of harboring leaves, which can sometimes create the illusion of hands. Meanwhile, specialized additions on the back act more as small tree branches, which will sport the fruits that every individual will eventually produce. This group consists only of hard bodied breeds.
Produces: Edible Leaves; Juice Packets; Nutritious Sap
Sub-Genus types) Citruce Trestrus; Peer Trestrus; Lychea Trestrus; Plume Trestrus; Appaul Trestrus; Cherrule Trestrus

Tuberr) An uncommon form of Vegetative class monster, known for having tendrils which grow from the sides of the body, while soft, thick roots act as a means of travel. While these roots have not specifically formed to mimic feet, they can be used much like sturdier tendrils so as to allow easy movement. The vegetables that this group produces grow in specialized chambers along the back, which causes their leaves to fan out and create a cape of sorts. Pulling these objects out is not advised, as it will damage the monster. Good breeders know that they must wait for these vegetables to ripen and all out on their own accord. This group is soft bodied, but often considered hard bodied as a result of their firm bodies.
Produces:Edible Leaves; Edible Roots; Nutritious Sap
Sub-Genus types) Carrat Tuberr; Beat Tuberr; Tot Tuberr; Gingar Tuberr

Reproduction:

With this class of monster, it comes as no surprise that seeds act as a means of reproduction. Albeit, plants have been spreading through seeds for eons to come, so, this comes as nothing special. The difference being that these recently discovered monsters need to actively seek out mates for the sake of reproducing, rather than being reliant on pollination. This has also resulted in all produced fruits being barren of anything akin to a seed, because the Vegetative class monsters would rather not risk having such delicate items pass through the stomachs of creatures that could quite literally kill their young before they can be born.
When it comes down to legitimate reproduction, seeds produced by these monsters need to be planted in warm, moist soil and kept in relatively stable conditions for a minimum of one week, before the artificial womb can from underground and act as a safe place of gestation for the soon to be born monster. Once the artificial womb has successfully formed, it takes only a month for the newborn to emerge from within. Depending on the legitimate genus, a newborn may be no larger than a quarter, or up to four inches in height. Once born, the young needn't be given much special care. The only basic requirement is that they be kept in a somewhat confined space, away from larger monsters, so as to prevent any unwanted accidents. Cannibalism is only known to occur when newborns are within the range of adult monsters, who for unknown reasons, seem to crave the nutrients present in juvenile bodies. Tendrils are what act as a means of exchanging the breeding material, as well as allowing the safe deposits of seeds into the earth.

Cross Species Relations?:

While Vegetative class monsters are incapable of reproducing with humans or other such monster classes, they are still known to engage in what are considered sexual activities. Partaking in these acts simply to portray intense affection or to bond, it is not uncommon for these creatures to select one individual outside of their class, and become frequently active with them so long as opportunities are present. Doing so typically does not cause either party harm, unless the selected partner takes to eating the leafy appendages or aspects of the Vegetative monsters body - causing damage.
