“What size shirt do you wear?” Leon asked me out of nowhere as he continued to stare me down. My immediate response would have been to stare back at him and give him a rude reply- but, in light of recent events, I found myself double-thinking that action. He'd pinned me to the bed and scared me half to death when I misbehaved at dinner the night before. He backed out of the driveway abruptly and made he hurt my butt this morning for not talking to him at the door when he came to pick me up. I had the feeling that if I said or did anything impolite, that he'd get back at me somehow- and right now I was standing in the middle of his house. There wouldn't be anyone here to help me if I did something that made him attack me- so I quickly put on my most polite expression and gave him a reasonable answer.“I'm a small, why?” I asked through gritted teeth, earning something of a smile from Leon, who immediately turned and walked into another room. When he came back, he held a pair of sweat pants and a tee-shirt. I raised an eyebrow and waited for him to explain himself.
“Because you and I, are going to work in the garden.” Leon said calmly as he extended his arm to hand me the clothes- I hesitated. The pants looked like they would fit, but the shirt was way to big for me- the collar went down so far I wouldn't be surprised if it exposed my chest. He noticed my eyeing the shirt and chuckled.
“Sorry, that's the only clean tee I have at the moment. Unless you want to wear something dirty?” He asked with a sly smile as he raised an eyebrow. I swear I snatched the clothes out of his hand before he even had a chance to realize that I'd moved.
“No- these will work fine...” I said through gritted teeth, attempting to keep my temper under control. He was making fun of me and it was really pissing me off.
“Where do I change?” I asked as soon as I had the clothing secure in my arms- because there was no way in hell that I was going to change in the middle of his house, not to mention in front of him. He swiftly pointed down a hallway.
“Down the hall, last door on the right.” Leon said calmly. I couldn't help but scowl- not because he was bothering me, but because I didn't like the sound his metal gloves made whenever he moved his fingers. Offering a short nod, she abruptly turned and walked down the hall, and into the bathroom so that she could get changed. Once in the bathroom, I made sure to lock the door so that I wouldn't have to worry about Leon walking in on me while I changed my clothes. I put the sweats on the toilet then waited a moment before I stripped down to nothing but my underwear- then I turned so that my back was facing the mirror. Why? Because my ass still hurt from the incident in the truck. Sure enough, I had an ugly purple bruise right on my butt- over my tail-bone to be specific. Well, that was going to make sitting down suck for a while. Once I saw my damaged rear I reached for the black tee on top of the toilet- and that's when I felt something grab my leg. In an instant my lane of vision flew to the floor, and I screamed. There, coiling around my leg, was a huge snake! It only took me a second to realize it was a python- and not just that, it was an albino Burmese python! What the hell was this kind of a snake doing in the bathroom?!
Before I had the chance to say or do anything else, the bathroom door flew open. Sure enough, Leon stood in the doorway, staring at me with wide eyes- but I couldn't tell if it was because I'd screamed, or because I was standing semi-nude with a friggin python coiling around my legs. Yeah, the damn snake was tightening around both of my legs now! To my surprise, he let out a sigh of relief when he saw the snake coiling around my legs, and he walked further into the bathroom where he knelt down next to me.
“Aye, Jack. You silly thing. Come here.” Leon said calmly, and in an eerily gentle tone as he extended his arm towards the Burmese python. Imagine my surprise when the snake turned its head and slithered up his arm to coil loosely around his neck and shoulders- its chilled scales rubbed against skin bringing goosebumps to the surface when it did so. Then, he stood up and smiled teasingly at me.
“I'm sorry if he scared you...” He said calmly as he grasped the snake by the back of its head and pointed its face towards me.
“Jack, this is Sophie. She's going to be helping me with the garden today. Now introduce yourself properly and tell her your sorry.” Leon said with a smile as he held the snakes head out to me, then loosened his grip on it. Not a moment later, the enormous serpent slithered up his arm so that its face was right in front of mine- it came so close that the end of its mouth touched my lips. My eyes went wide at the unexpected contact, and I realized that its tongue had darted out to lick my lips- the only thing keeping me from gasping was the knowledge that I'd inevitably tongue kiss the damn snake if I opened my mouth. Not a moment later, the snake pulled back and turned to loosely coil around Leon's neck- then it fell still save for the occasional flicker of its tongue.
At around that same time Leon seemed to notice that I was standing half naked in front of him- and I felt my blood start to boil as I watched his eyes dart down my frame as if to inspect me. My arms flew to my chest to cover by breasts out of instinct, and the burning sensation in my cheeks let me know that I was blushing like mad- it was an angry blush, but a blush nonetheless. Then, the bastard had the nerve to laugh at me!
“Nice bellybutton...” Leon said while giggling as he lifted his eyes to meet my gaze, before he abruptly turned and walked back out the bathroom door.
“You didn't peg me as the belly-ring type.” He said quietly as he shut the door behind him- the comment sounded more like he was talking to himself than to me, but it was still loud enough to hear. There is no describing how embarrassed I was- and what I wanted to know was how the hell he got into the bathroom when I'd locked the door. I quickly put on the sweats and tee, and I folded my own clothes out of habit- then I hesitantly approached the bathroom door to examine it. The door was still locked- or at least, it looked locked. When I reached for the knob and tried to turn it, the door opened normally. That answered the question of how Leon managed to get into the bathroom so easily- the lock was broken. Well, what little comfort I had in this place just flew out the window- apparently I had no means of privacy. He could just walk in on me whenever he felt like it. Grumbling profanity under my breath, I walked out of the bathroom more than ready to punch the stupid jerk in the face for not warning me about the broken lock- but, what I saw made me second guess what I was about to do. He wasn't doing much- he was just sitting down holding his snake, smiling and talking to it.
But, how he was talking and the way he was smiling is exactly why I hesitated. His smile was, natural, and his eyes were oddly gentle. There was nothing forced about his expression, or hidden in it- I was seeing his genuine smile. As for what he was saying- I couldn't actually hear him. Every sound that met my ears was that of a whisper- a soft, hushed voice. He was like a parent speaking to a newborn child- very quite and gentle. His posture was relaxed, and the few movements he was making were as simple as a shifting of the leg or an adjusting of the wrist. All in all he seemed completely at ease- I almost felt bad when I walked into the room, because the second he spotted me his body tensed up. In a matter of seconds he went from being someone I wouldn't mind being around, to someone that I'd kick square in the groin given the first chance. After a moment he stood up to address me.
“Have you ever worked in a garden before?” Leon asked calmly as he pulled the snake off of him and set it on the couch- the enormous serpent immediately started to slither in my direction. I backed up out of instinct, only to find myself rushing to Leon's side in an attempt to avoid the snake- for one reason or another, it seemed to like me.
“Why-why is he following me?” I asked as I grabbed onto Leon's arm. Sure, I probably seemed like a frightened little schoolgirl, but as far as things were, I technically was. The snake was freaking me out, and Leon seemed to know how to keep it under control. He sighed and bent down to pick the snake up by its neck- said snake didn't put up any resistance.
“Because he likes you- know answer the question.” Leon said calmly, before he walked over to the front door and opened it- he put the snake down and watched as it slithered off the porch and out into the grass.
“Answer what question?” I asked after thinking for a moment- I'd been so distracted by the snake that I hadn't actually heard him ask me anything. He sighed and turned to face me, his arms crossed in front of his chest.
“Have you ever worked in a garden before?” Leon asked asked he sighed irritatedly- he even started tapping his fingers on his elbow. Man, he was impatient wasn't he?
“Oh...Well, yeah, once or twice, I've never managed to keep everything alive though.” I said curiously. Why would he need to know whether or not I'd worked in a garden before? I'm pretty sure most of what he'd need me to do was pick some weeds or something. He narrowed his eyes at me and scowled, his eyes taking on the dangerous golden coloration I'd seen him adorn at least five times today. Then, he sighed and turned around.
“I guess it can't be helped...” Leon said quietly as he pushed the door the rest of the way open before moving to the side and motioning for me to step out- I did as was instructed, but was hesitant. He stepped out onto the porch a moment later and closed the door behind him, before he started walking towards the nearby woods.
“Follow me.” He said calmly- and so I did, though I was unsure whether or not I wanted to follow this guy out into the forest. To make the situation more unpleasant for me, that damn snake was following me again. It- er, I'm going to start calling it a “He” because Leon called it Jack- followed me so closely that his face brushed against my foot every other step. I'd of probably gotten pissed at the damn snake if I wasn't so worried about him trying to eat me should I piss him off- so I just tried to ignore its constant touches. Honestly, the snake was just as mad as his master.
“Hold it...” Leon said out of nowhere as he abruptly stopped walking- he even raised his arm at his side as a physical sign that I should stop walking.
“What is it?” I asked nervously as my eyes started darting around the area- I'd been so concerned with the snake that I hadn't realized how far into the woods we were. There were trees and bushes all around us, so many that I couldn't see past them. In the end my eyes fell on Leon, and I rushed to his side not wanting to be the one standing alone should a predator show up. To my surprise, he reached out and pulled me flush against his side as if to protect me. Then I looked up at him- he was staring someplace to the left of us. I followed his gaze, noticed that he was staring at a clump of young trees- they were packed together so tightly it was as if they formed a wall. I held my gaze their for a moment, and after a few seconds, the trees abruptly shook. The was something on the other side of them- and I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to know what that something was. Without warning, Leon's arms wrapped painfully tight around my back- I was being pressed so close to him that I was actually having trouble breathing.
“Leon-” I attempted to speak only to have him shush me by lifting his other hand to cover my mouth. Then, he hesitantly turned his head enough to see me with one eye.
“Don't move, and don't speak...” Leon said in a harsh whisper, his voice terrifyingly calm and stern. Then, his gaze fell back to that of the shaking trees- I could hear then snapping under the weight of whatever stand hidden behind them. I could feel my body beginning to tremble- the snake! He was coiling around out legs as if he were trying to hold anchor us in place! The trees were shaking more now- more of them were snapping! I could actually see some of those young trees being pushed over by whatever beast was coming after us! The snake coiled higher on us- he slithered up and around our waists, then went higher still until he coiled around our shoulders! I hadn't realized how heavy the snake was until he was sitting atop my shoulders- had I not been so afraid of what lay past the trees I would have marveled at how easily Leon had managed to pick the serpent up. Then, another sound came from clutter of trembling trees- a glow, menacing growl! Then, the beast that was here to claim our lives lept out from behind the trees, knocking over half the remaining sticks of timber down in the process. My eyes widened as my gaze fell upon the creature that emerged from behind the trees- it was a-
