Male reader x Ticci Toby, via request of a friend of mine. Doing the basic information first and linking to it come every chapter.

Basic plot:
Reader suffers from PTSD due to years of physical and mental abuse, and developed the disorder as a result of psychosis. He also suffers from depression. Reader randomly has extremely realistic hallucinations, and depending on the content of the hallucination either responds calmly, happily, or with extreme fear or anger. Due to the hallucinations and the "Unwanted" behavior displayed by the reader, his abusive parents- who grew tired of dealing with the constant screams and crying- sent him to a mental hospital to be treated. Reader has currently been there two and a half years- now being 18 and having been sent to the mental hospital at 16. Little progress has been made in dealing with his PTSD and psychosis, because the doctors/workers main target is to keep their patients behavior in check.

Most of the patients are given considerable amounts of drugs to keep them "Mellowed out", and virtually no work is done in hopes of improving their mental states. However, given that the reader is capable of having hallucinations and acting out while drugged, they are a special case. Instead of being "doped up" constantly, they are tranquilized and rendered unconscious in the event of unwanted behavior- which is usually triggered from PTSD or a hallucination. ONLY, during these times- otherwise the staff would be keeping the reader in a constant comatose state, which would cost them extra money. Hence, they've taken the "Cheapest course of action", rather than doing their job- which is to help the reader and other patients recover.

What little recovery the reader has made is actually due to no longer being in the toxic environment they'd come from. No parents constantly beating him, or mentally torturing him. No bullies picking on him- and no more being chased down only to be forced to witness terrible things. His PTSD first began to develop as a result of being forced to watch his bullies burn his dog alive- and it only grew worse as the beatings and mental torture continued. Without that around to influence him, his personality began to emerge. Aside from panic attacks and hallucinations, reader seems to behave like the stereotypical teenage boy. As in he's a smartass. He's actually recovered enough to start fighting back in the rare event of bullying.

Given that the reader has been in the mental hospital two and a half years, he's seen new patients come and go. Within the first year of his being there, they witnessed the arrival of a very odd patient. Toby Rodgers- or Ticci Toby as the staff often called him. Toby is, unique compared to other patients. He suffers from Tourettes which, which is the cause of his constant twitching and ticking. He also has a rare medical condition, called CIP- which prevents him from feeling any pain. He also seems to lack the ability to tell hot from cold- but only to the extremes which would trigger pain during exposure. Toby is prone to bugging the workers and patients of the ward, but is typically left undrugged via the orders of whoever sent him there.

He is only drugged in the event of violence- in which case he is knocked out and put in his room to sleep it off. Due to the reader and Toby being among the handful who aren't constantly doped out, they began to interact with one another in order to fight off boredom. They sometimes fight and tend to make jokes, among other things- and be it due to the environment or not the pair seemed to develop romantic feelings for one another. Kissing and holding hands seems to be as intimate as like to get- despite the odd acceptations of the staff. The workers at the mental hospital actually encourage same-sex relationships, seeing as they know they'er unable to keep patients from getting intimate.

They'd rather there be sexually active same sex couples than sexually active opposite sex couples- because straight couples could result in unwanted pregnancies that they'd have to explain. The facility IS a co-ed one, meaning they have male and female patients. Things being that way, the reader and Toby are rarely interrupted during their rare moments of romantic intimacy. They are broken up in the events where they have a fight- because of Toby's violent tenancies and the fact that the reader lacks enough physical strength to properly defend himself. Hence they break it up to prevent homicide, which would give their establishment a bad rep.

This is a bit of an AU universe where mental hospitals are run and operated differently. In a sense, all of the mental hospitals are directly influenced by prisons- they house dangerous people who they constantly monitor, hence an explanation as to why "Normal" patients sent by their family aren't bothered with while patients sent via a court and such are kept close eyes on. Hence they pay more attention to Toby than to other patients. Reader is getting extra attention because of his relationship with the killer.
