Choco tugs her belongings further up on her arm, smiling. She's pretty excited, all things considered, and though her experience in the air is...limited at best, she isn't afraid. Flying seems pretty awesome. "Hello? Choco, checking in!"

The ticket agent greets you and hands you your boarding pass. βBoarding begins at 15:30 MT March 7; the flight will leave at 14:00 MT March 8. Choco peers around the plane, scanning for Seat 2B. Upon finding it, she settles her pack in front of her and sits down, looking around with nervous confusion...and excitement. So much excitement. She glances at the nearby attendants and tilts her head curiously. "Will there be an explanation as to what happens when we get on the islands? I'm new to the Kituen explorations..."

An attendant walks by to check if you have your seatbelt fastened. There will be a chance to ask questions when the plane is in the air. Once you have fastened your seatbelt, she starts the safety message.
Een: "Welcome aboard flight 201 to the Kituen Isles! I am Een, I'll be your head attendant for this flight. Because this is a small aircraft, as you have noticed, we have to maintain a very delicate balance of weight while we are in flight. We ask that you remain in your seat for the entire flight; should you need to use the bathroom, please call a flight attendant to take your seat. This aircraft has two exits; the one you came in through and one at the rear of the plane. In the event of a crash, please calmly exit using one of the exits. Our flight duration should be approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. Thank you for flying with us."
During the flight, you will have the opportunity to ask three questions to any of the attendants on the plane.

Choco, seatbelt firm across her, listens intently. She doesn't plan on leaving her seat, having used the restroom beforehand. With her favorite book in hand, she'll be fine. "Thank you, Een!" She grips her armrests excitedly, wondering when the Q&A begins.

Choco peers between the attendants before addressing each with the following questions, careful to remain polite.
Drie: What is the most important thing you think I should know?
Vier: Is there a way to influence which species, if any, I will bring home?
Vyf: Are there aspects of the isles I should be wary, or even frightened, of?
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-03-10 20:46:47 +0000 UTC]
Drie: "The most important thing? I can assume you mean about the expedition and not about life. In the terms of the expedition, the most important thing is to be honest and detailed with the guide you choose in the isles. If they don't know what you want they won't be able to get it for you." π: 0 β©: 1
Vier: "Different guides have different specialties; you should ask a few questions of the guides you are presented with before deciding."
Vyf: "Nah, there's nothing on the isles to be frightened of. Unless you don't like bears. Or stampeding reptiles. Or volatile water. But hey, just remember this: thontors can't climb trees, so if you happen to hear the ground vibrating, climb a tree."
The attendants resume their jobs as the plane begins to descend; you look out the windows and see a vast, bright blue ocean beneath the plane. It's a clear day, warm too by the look of it.

You have officially arrived at the airfield in the grassy midlands of Soran. A welcoming crew meets you as you disembark from the aircraft. There is a man waiting for you at the bottom of the stairway. βWelcome to Soran! I have a number of people waiting behind me who can take you to a different part of Kitue to explore. But first I need to know; which direction do you wish to travel?β
Please choose one of the following: North/Northeast/Northwest/East. Or, if you have a particular guide in mind, choose them.
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-03-12 23:27:51 +0000 UTC]
Choco greets the man warmly, then knits her brows in thought. "I'm hoping to come back with a rainbird or solca...or maybe a sovym, depending on how things work out. Can you direct me to an appropriate guide, or is this something I should have discussed with the an attendants?" She looks sheepish at her lack of knowledge, feeling a bit silly.
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-03-13 05:48:14 +0000 UTC]
The man looks slightly confused.
Welcomer: "I'm sorry, I don't really know who in this bunch deals with what creatures. But if you pick a direction where there's water; which is basically every direct, heh, you should be able to find someone who is at home on the water."

"No, no, you don't have to feel sorry. That's my bad!" She looks around and shrugs. "Northwest seems as good a direction as any. I think I'll head that way."
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-03-13 19:10:53 +0000 UTC]
Youβve chosen Northwest. Five people move forward; their areas of expertise lies to the northwest. Among them are a leader, a child and a sailor. Who would you like to approach?

chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-03-13 19:18:17 +0000 UTC]
Choco peers between them, seriously weighing her options before finally walking up to the child and holding out her hand for a shake. "Hello," she says excitedly.

SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-03-15 06:27:07 +0000 UTC]
Child: "HI!" The girl grabs your hand and dances around in a circle, pulling you with her. "I'm Hannas! Do you like to explore? I like to explore. Can you fly a kite? Do you have a yoyo? Oooooh, butterfly!" She lets go of your hand and starts chasing a butterfly the area.
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-03-15 16:41:58 +0000 UTC]
Choco glances around, heartened by Hannas' energy, but doubtful. On the one hand, her easily distracted nature could lead to some interesting discoveries. On the other hand, they might not get much of anywhere. She glances over at the leader and tilts her head. "One moment, Hannas. I'd like to speak with the other two first, unless we don't have time."

Choco walks over to the sailor, clearing her throat. "Perhaps you can help me. My name is Choco, and I'm hoping for a good experience there on the islands."

SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-03-24 03:16:57 +0000 UTC]
The aged sailor takes a good look at you then thrusts his weathered hand in your direction.
Varton: "The names's Varton! Nice to meet you Choco. I wouldn't be able to give you an experience on the islands at all; no, my speciality is the sea!" He points northward to the light blue sparkling water. "There are all kinds of things to be seen out there, some of them not quite human or animal."
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-03-26 18:39:02 +0000 UTC]
"Good to meet you, sir!" She listens to the rest of his words and lights up. Now THAT sounds promising. "Solcas..?" Choco asks hopefully. "I love solcas; they're just gorgeous. Even if I don't return home with one, I'd like to see one."
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-03-28 01:10:45 +0000 UTC]
Varton: "Yes, there are solcas out there. Definitely the biggest things out there. Did you want to start out then?"
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-03-30 02:57:27 +0000 UTC]
Choco grins from ear to ear. "Yes, please, Mr. Varton! Oh, forgive me, is that Captain Varton?"
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-03-30 04:13:46 +0000 UTC]
Varton: "Varton is fine, I'm retired from work." He smiles. "Let's be off then!" He leads you to a pair of xoals tied to a post and gives the reins for one of them. "You can ride, right?"
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-03-30 19:44:32 +0000 UTC]
Choco nods and slings her pack sideways. "Yep! Plenty of experience on the backs of all sorts of creatures." Including some that didn't want her there, so a pair of xoals seems a welcome break from some of the crazier things. She strokes the neck of hers before climbing gently onto its back. "What a lovely thing you are," she hums sweetly. "Absolutely lovely."
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-03 03:53:54 +0000 UTC]
(Late reply is late, my apologies.)
Your ride takes you about an hour; you find yourself standing next to a long dock with a sailboat moored to it. Varton leads the xoals to a shelter and returns to the dock.
Varton: "Shall we go on board?"
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-03 20:00:49 +0000 UTC]
(Ah, no worries! Life happens.)
"Yes, please." Choco nods, smiling at Varton and admiring the sailboat. "So, you said you were retired?"
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-10 05:12:28 +0000 UTC]
Varton starts to untie the boat and pushes it out into the water before hoisting the sails.
Varton: "Yes, I used to work in the transportation industry in this part of the islands, occasionally travelling outside of this sector. I spent my whole life out on the seas, met some fascinating people and things out there on the water." Varton sighs in remembrance. "But my life isn't that interesting. What were you hoping to find out her dear? I can help you find nearly anything that lives in the water."
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-10 23:44:57 +0000 UTC]
"I was enjoying hearing about it," Choco responds, but his question quickly captures her attention. "A solca or a cephel would be great, and I also wouldn't mind coming home with a garhone!" She smiles at Varton. "I'm always excited when it comes to new species, even the dangerous ones. Hey, is there anything I can do to help?"
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-14 03:43:19 +0000 UTC]
The sailboat is just drifting, waiting for Varton to direct it.
Varton: "Well, before I can do anything further with the boat, I need to know where we're going, which will depend on which species you want to bring home with you. As you know, I specialize in delsi, solca, garhones or cephei. Or we could try to track down Deinarcii; she deals with the more legendary sea creatures."
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-15 20:01:47 +0000 UTC]
That causes Choco to perk a bit. "Legendary? What sorts of legendary sea creatures?" she asks curiously.
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-15 22:39:23 +0000 UTC]
Varton: "Oh, you know, the pakpao or the rainbird. I've heard she can also find aquatic gryphons, but the pride hasn't been through here in a while so I'm not sure if that is true still."
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-15 23:16:46 +0000 UTC]
Choco seems to slip into deep thought at the idea of a rainbird, and she sucks in a deep, awestruck breath at the mention of the gryphons. Eventually, though, she shakes her head. "The Edge of the Basin sounds interesting; what sort of creatures are commonly found there?"
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-15 23:23:33 +0000 UTC]
Varton: "The Edge is typically where the solca pods are; the waters are deeper and allow them to swim more than the shallow waters of the Reza. The Edge is a fickle place though; they're often more volatile because of their connection with the Great Basin." Varton checks a few knots and adjusts the sails slightly.
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-16 16:46:44 +0000 UTC]
"Fickle as in you'd rather not go? I can handle rough waters, but if you feel we'll be in danger, I trust your discretion."
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-19 04:39:08 +0000 UTC]
Forgive me, things got a little chaotic again. And we need to pick up the pace as the 20th is approaching quickly. X3
Varton: "No, no, it just means I'll have to pay more attention to what I'm doing to avoid capsizing. So, to the Edge?" Varton begins to alter the boat's course.
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-20 00:48:08 +0000 UTC]
Choco nods, smiling. "Yes, the Edge, please."
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-20 05:41:37 +0000 UTC]
Varton: "The Edge it is then!" Varton makes a flurry of adjustments and the boat skips over the waves heading southeast. The water steadily becomes darker as it gets deeper. He slows the boat; the water beneath you is a deep sapphire. "So, if we're out here that means you're looking for a solca. You need to attract one. In you go!" Varton motions that you should jump in the water.
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-20 14:59:34 +0000 UTC]
Choco's eyes widen, but she nods, kicking off her shoes and peering over the edge before sliding in feet-first. She seems perfectly at home in the water, though the waves throw her a bit. "Now what?"
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-20 18:51:07 +0000 UTC]
Varton motions that you should be quiet and dip underwater. You do, and once under, you hear a soft note reverberating through the water. There in front of you are two solcas dancing in the water, a brother and a sister. In the dark light it's hard to tell their exact patterns. You resurface for a breath and, after getting knocked around by the waves (you notice that Varton and the boat have drifted farther away from you), you go back under and approach the solcas.
Do you approach the male or the female?
π: 0 β©: 1
chubby-choco In reply to SpringsofIyore [2013-04-20 22:21:32 +0000 UTC]
Choco approaches the female, her mouth only closed because dropping it in awe would result in some very unwelcome seawater in her mouth.
π: 0 β©: 1
SpringsofIyore In reply to chubby-choco [2013-04-21 03:20:13 +0000 UTC]
The two solcas break their dance as you come closer; as you've swum towards the female, the male glides off into the deeper part of the ocean, perhaps to seek a mate. The female swims towards you slowly, careful not to disturb the water enough to hinder your progress. She swims beneath you and a stream of bubbles rises from her blowhole, pushing you back to the surface. She surfaces with you and in the light of the surface you are able to see her skin; a deep purple with varied markings. Varton calls you back to the boat and the solca helps you along the way. The boat is directed back to Soren, where Varton lets you off and collects a few provisions before heading back out into the Basin, to bring the solca to the mainland.
This signifies the end of your Expedition! Thank you for participating, your new friend will join the Springs when the plane returns to the mainland.

Bringing only myself and my ticket, along with my flashlight, I head cheerfully to the airport. I was incredibly comfortable with flying, though with the wings on my back the cramped spaces could be a bit terrible. Thankfully the plane seemed to be small enough that I could stretch out on the side of it from looking it up online.
I make sure that the gate I'm at is the proper one, and then stride forward to the desk to check in. "Hello I'm Elizabeth!" I say while holding out my ticket with a grin.

I sigh with relief at the seating arrangement, settling into my seat. Others were filtering into the plane, and I gleefully awaited the trip. It looked like only a few people were going to be on the flight, so I likely wouldn't have to share this back aisle! Though for all I knew the bathrooms could be right behind me, so I'd have to tuck my wings in anyway, but that would only be a temporary annoyance. Overall I was geared up and ready to go!
