It is very, very rare that an interface is drawn and implemented exactly as it was drawn the first time. And in this instance the interface for the new deviantART.com footer in v6 Sleek isn't exactly like this. But it is one of those rare instances where it's pretty damn close.

And that makes me really happy.

There are so many things I love about this footer. I hope you can see through the sloppiness of the drawing. I'll post a screenshot of the final footer over the next few days.

Purpose of this Footer:

Communities, especially an art community, needs some quality grit to keeps things in place. The way things were going, Sleek was going to be too much like its name. Sleek, clean, crisp.... just absolutely everything that's wrong with all the websites out there. It was going to have that horrid surgical feel to it as if humans didn't power the place and as if humans didn't live there. Well I wasn't having that. I wanted some mess. Some... wtf is that about? Some good ol' fashioned "can't quite get my hands around all that's going on here but it sure seems cool.." -- mission accomplished? Yes it was.

We wanted to give a whole lot more exposure to Deviousness, bring back the poll, and add some exposure to the kick ass news articles the community writes. Kinda like the old days.. and we wanted to do it not just on the front page, but everywhere that it was appropriate to have a big footer (which excludes deviant pages, and I think also deviation pages where we want the emphasis to be on the artists and the art.) - For those who really hate it? There's arrows to get rid of it and they database save, not just cookie save. So you don't have to worry about your settings being kept on multiple computers.

Lastly, we loved the SLOTS concept we used to have (and currently have in v5) on the front page. So we still have a channels page that you can bookmark that looks just like our current home page in v6, but you can also tune from channel to channel of your slots at the bottom as well.
