Description one of my best friends. he's from Israel, speaks with an extremely enjoyable accent and... thanks to me, he likes to say "dude!" with a high exclamation and it's just so funny every time he says it. anyway, I really liked this photo. I take a lot of photos but I submit very few and I felt like this was deviantART worthy.

Very cool shot
I like to take photos as well but I don't have the time, the good camera and the model for it so I mostly draw and most of the pictures I take are landscapes and flowers
It must be a very good lens u used there, to have such a good focus across of a room.
So his name is Oren eh?
I first thought the title was dutch, oren in dutch means 'ears'. X3
Anyway, this is a very good photograph taken and I hope u'll be able to buy that lens one day so we can see more pictures likz this .

I keep coming back to this image and I can't figure out why . I guess its the expression you captured there and as I said earlier the way this shot is framed. To me its like a class "paparazzi" shot, no offense please but when I look through galleries that contain those celebrity close ups , your picture fits very well in those standards !

it's REALLY funny you say that actually.

I took that shot in a camera store. I was in there playing with lenses I couldn't afford, and I took that photo from way across the room. It was a kick ass telescope lens, and Oren caught me catching him from a really far distance.

REALLY good eye you've got!! hah

Also... Perhaps you took the shot this close, because this is an intimate shot. Perhaps this man means a lot to you. I wouldn't say you really need to bring the shot outward, but for some this may invade their mental 'ersonal zone'.

This just looks too much like he got debrained and beheaded

Dude!

Wow.... this is nice shot! and this was a few months after Janina's.... your getting better... what about a recent one? Your obviously learning.

dxd [2007-11-21 09:21:50 +0000 UTC]

Thats got some really good focus on there dude..

You said in your photo of Janina that you want to be able to call yourself a photographer some day, so here's two tips that would have helped this photo (and hopefully will help ones in the future).

Take a step back, all right, moments don't last forever, but taking a step back and getting all the head in the shot can allow for more character to show through and also gives you room to crop the photo tightly into the face. Also, this close up, I personally would try to keep to the rule of thirds , which is quite easy with a face due to the shape of it

Good shot dude.

spyed In reply to dxd [2007-11-21 09:39:51 +0000 UTC]

hey, thanks man! i appreciate the advice.

so was this a bad use of the rule of thirds or a good use? hehe

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Velvetspacetime In reply to spyed [2007-11-25 20:19:46 +0000 UTC]

It does fit the rule of thirds (even thought the rule of thirds isn't a rule, its theory into what we find attractive). The eye which does comply to the rule is out of focus, however.

I don't get it, Its a face.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SephyNox In reply to Velvetspacetime [2007-11-26 00:03:23 +0000 UTC]

It's not a theory nor hypothesis since it does not stand the test of time. The "rule of thirds" can either improve a photo or deteriorate it. The "rule" is more of a guideline--as Jack Sparrow would put it--and is best used by those who have the eye for it.

dxd In reply to spyed [2007-11-21 10:10:18 +0000 UTC]

This isn't really in rule of thirds, to bring it in to the rule of thirds you you would need to bring one of the eyes further to the left or the right into either the left or right third.

[link] In this example by the venerable Mr Weeks of Ms Jolie, this is a good example of rule of thirds, you have her eyes sitting in the top third and her shoulders fall into the left third. These areas are generally considered to be most appealing to the eye.

[link] In this second example as you can see the photo is more similar to yours, but she has her head tilted at an angle so that her right so that her right eye, which is the point of focus like in your photo, is in the right third.

Like I said, you have very good focus, especially on the right eye, but at the moment it's pretty much central and it would have been helped if it had been over to the right. It's by no means a bad shot at all, I really think the focus is good and it shows that it doesn't matter what camera you're using, it's what you do with it that matters. It's good, I'm really pleased that you seem interested in taking this further

You have a wealth of knowledge around you man, with the people that you work with and this community. You're more than welcome to ask me anything, you've definitely got an eye for it, which should always be encouraged.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Velvetspacetime In reply to dxd [2007-11-25 20:21:03 +0000 UTC]

The right eye isn't in focus.

The nose is, at F2.8, everything behind that will blend away. I don't understand?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dxd In reply to Velvetspacetime [2007-11-26 08:03:25 +0000 UTC]

I was giving a critique, what don't you understand?

The eye may not be in perfect focus, but it is good focus, especially given that this is not a photographer, but someone looking to get into it.

If you don't have anything more constructive to do than make statements like that then don't bother.

I'm not asking you to understand, I was offering advice to someone to help him learn.
