Description broke down this speedpaint (68minutes) into 3 seperate videos dealing with basic scene setting, simple clouds, an organic skyline, and foreground elements, hopefully it'll give you guys an idea of how i work, and maybe give some of you a few ideas. 3 layers used using basic photoshop brushes (apart from the skyline where i made some brushes on the fly, included them in the rarfile), kept it simple to follow, and apart from a little cropping and contrast adjustment, you get exactly what's shown in the pic.

...........................

basic cloud formations - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-

...........................

basic city skyline - (24minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) - -[ [link] ]-

...........................

foreground elements - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-

...........................

hopefully you guys will enjoy them.
any problems with playing the files, try installing the xvid codec first (google it), if you can't get it to play (winamp & mediaplayer sometimes have a problem with xvid as it's the codec pirates use on dvdrips, they installed security measures on some versions) just download vlc player from videolan.org, it'll play anything and doesn't mess with your current setup. Also, winrar is easily available, but winzip/winace etc will handle the extension in the extension manager.

Thanks so much. The shorterst speedpaint I did was three hrs, and it sucks, so I could use some help.

Although I don't pretend to be able to do *that* kind of work in 70 mins.

Would you be willing to post the brushes? I have looked everywhere at building and architecture brushes and have not found any as useful as the ones you used. It would be wonderful if you do, but if you don't I completely understand. Thanks again!

kazemizuhi [2007-08-09 22:37:20 +0000 UTC]

For a beginner like myself, this opens up a whole new world.

I always struggle to paint half decent clouds, but now that I understand the process that goes into creating them things will be a whole lot easier.

Same goes for the city scape, and thanks for including the brush set (a stroke of genius).

Now my only problem will be that I still don't have a tablet. Is it still possible to achieve these results with a good mouse...?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

spyroteknik In reply to kazemizuhi [2007-08-09 23:57:16 +0000 UTC]

it's possible, you can't move the paint around like you can with a tablet (pressure sensitivity), won't smear, but if you knock the opacity down (on both smudge, and brushes) you can achieve similar results, might take a little longer to get it looking right but should still produce believable clouds

Well, I gave this a shot twice on my brand spankin' new tablet. The first time was absolutely terrible: [link]

The second time was better, but pales in comparison to the stuff shown in the tutorial: [link]

If you could give any advice on the second one, I would definitely appreciate it. They look a little fake to me... I dunno. Any tips would be cool.

And by the way, awesome tutorial.
