Description broke down this speedpaint (68minutes) into 3 seperate videos dealing with basic scene setting, simple clouds, an organic skyline, and foreground elements, hopefully it'll give you guys an idea of how i work, and maybe give some of you a few ideas. 3 layers used using basic photoshop brushes (apart from the skyline where i made some brushes on the fly, included them in the rarfile), kept it simple to follow, and apart from a little cropping and contrast adjustment, you get exactly what's shown in the pic.

...........................

basic cloud formations - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-

...........................

basic city skyline - (24minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) - -[ [link] ]-

...........................

foreground elements - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-

...........................

hopefully you guys will enjoy them.
any problems with playing the files, try installing the xvid codec first (google it), if you can't get it to play (winamp & mediaplayer sometimes have a problem with xvid as it's the codec pirates use on dvdrips, they installed security measures on some versions) just download vlc player from videolan.org, it'll play anything and doesn't mess with your current setup. Also, winrar is easily available, but winzip/winace etc will handle the extension in the extension manager.

Re-loaded by browser and hooray, my site now works ok.
Just watched the vid's, very interesting. I've only just started digital and have been using Painter 9. I haven't started using Photoshop yet, so I am confused as to the tools and brushes that you used, but I'll work it out.The buildings were interesting. I have a pic that this will be very handy on, so I must mess around. Cheers again. You've given me a lot to think about. Good work, by the way.

How do you watch this then?

spyroteknik In reply to crhino [2006-10-23 13:59:18 +0000 UTC]

winamp or windows mediaplayer should pick it up ok, if it starts searching for a codec, download the xvid codec - [link] -, but your best bet to get it working ok is to download videolan player, it's a player that plays everything you throw at it - [link]

cheers. I have mediaplayer, but there is no button, to down load. What do I click on to make it work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spyroteknik In reply to crhino [2006-10-23 16:07:13 +0000 UTC]

just click the 3 links in the description, download, then double click, they should by rights play ok through mediaplayer, but if you get a garbled green blocky screen, try the vlc link as that player is a great little tool to keep on your desktop

crhino In reply to spyroteknik [2006-10-23 17:23:56 +0000 UTC]

ok, cheers. That'll be the problem then. My site doesn't display the artists comments, so that's why I can't see a link. Some downloads have an extra button, that I can see. Shame, I would've liked to watch it. I wish they would sort this out, I like being able to read what the artist says, about their work.

kinda pointless when you have either 2 monitors or choose not to show the second display. Hence we can't see what your doing lol....

spyroteknik In reply to WhiSt [2006-10-12 08:48:43 +0000 UTC]

it's all on one display, i chose not to include the menu's as it would have bumped the filesize up around 60mb, not very web friendly, i used only 2 brushes (which were stated), so didn't see the need

Many thanks for that awesome tutorial!
I just watched the cloud-part and I'll try that out, before I move to the next one.
This lighten things up for me! Didn't wash my eyes the whole time.
I've got some questions though.
You rushed through the brush settings like a roadrunner. What were you doing there?
I was hitting "pause" every time, but since I didn't see all the settings it was a little confusing. So let's see if I got that right.
You use standart rounds and the smudge brush, right? And you set the strength jitter to pen pressure for the smudging? Correct?
Anything I missed?
And did you uncheck the penpressure for the size jitter?
Oh yeah. And do you use the opacity/flow settings? Or do you just stick to the pen pressure?
This was a little confusing.
The other thing is probably not answerable, but I'll try anyway. How do you choose your colors?
HSB slider? And then depending on mood?
Anyway, excellent tutorial, mate!
But next time, include the toolbar and settings.

1, yep
2, yep, didn't miss anything, and yeah, unchecked size jitter
3, just stuck to pen pressure
4, yeah pretty much, hsb slider is my friend, colours tend to come naturally
pretty much hit it on the head, i toyed with the idea of showing the menu's on this one, but figured it'd be followable without, but will definately try to include them on another
glad it was of use, cheers man

It's a very nice tutorial but sometimes I couldn't understand what tools was used. Can you make the tool box visible next time?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spyroteknik In reply to dbbgba [2006-10-12 08:55:12 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i will do, with this one i only used the two brushes (paintbrush and smudge, pen set to pressure with the size jitter unticked) so figured the tradeoff in final size was worth not including them

Ok just watched them, very inspiring man! Also really gives me great motivation, so many stages i'd just stop because i think, how can anything come out this? Well, you actually show what you can make out of some random colours & brush strokes, cheers.

Simply stunning work (but you knew that already.

I'm new to this lark but I'm sure to study your vids for techniques and work for inspiration - especially the sci fi landscapes. Just awe inspiring stuff.
