Description
broke down this speedpaint (68minutes) into 3 seperate videos dealing with basic scene setting, simple clouds, an organic skyline, and foreground elements, hopefully it'll give you guys an idea of how i work, and maybe give some of you a few ideas. 3 layers used using basic photoshop brushes (apart from the skyline where i made some brushes on the fly, included them in the rarfile), kept it simple to follow, and apart from a little cropping and contrast adjustment, you get exactly what's shown in the pic............................
basic cloud formations - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-
...........................
basic city skyline - (24minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) - -[ [link] ]-
...........................
foreground elements - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-
...........................
hopefully you guys will enjoy them.
any problems with playing the files, try installing the xvid codec first (google it), if you can't get it to play (winamp & mediaplayer sometimes have a problem with xvid as it's the codec pirates use on dvdrips, they installed security measures on some versions) just download vlc player from videolan.org, it'll play anything and doesn't mess with your current setup. Also, winrar is easily available, but winzip/winace etc will handle the extension in the extension manager.

Hey martin. Some questions I got about your videos.
- painting with a wacom?
- could you make the brushes available for photoshop version 7 also?
- may you could display the layers palette in the next videso (if they are planned *gg*)
Muchos grazios my friend.

yeah, i use an intuosa4 (brushes set to pen pressure)
they should work fine in 7 .abr format, and they just drop on/one clickers, no fancy effects, pretty basic brushes (couple of quick grids, square/rectangle selection and building tops)
i would but it bumps up the filesize considerably as i use 1600 res, a fullscreen grab is huge, these were all done on one layer each so it negated the need for these but i wish i could for others

Hi martin
Thanks for your comment. I tried to setup the brushes in v7 but it told me thats for newer versions, thats the reason I asked. I wasn't talking about fullsize or so but your layer palette would be nice to see *gg*

ahh, bugger, well, here's a jpg of them, easy enough to make a selection around them and define brush - [link] - , next vid, if i use more than one layer, i'll include it in there somewhere, you're not missing much from these as they were on a single layer anyway

This version looks a lot brighter than the one at the end of the video, and I've got to say I liked it at the end of the video more than on here, the final lights you put on stand out a lot more here and look a bit too strong. Nonetheless, amazing job, and the video tutorial is so helpful.

good stuff, i was a bit worried after i upped the contrast that it'd be a bit too different to the video, glad you liked the video more as it was the main product

And about the picture: I think there is too much sharpening. Light borders around buildings on the back of image looks little unsightly. Lights on buildings - why didn't you use any special brush for them? I find it little disturbing for their inordinance.
Though, it is great picture with nice colors!

spyroteknik In reply to Medhi [2006-08-02 11:22:36 +0000 UTC]
yeah, i was concentrating more on the videos and what they showed me doing than finishing up the image, wanted to keep it simple to follow so just dotted the lights around to give the illusion of lights, if i were to create an image by itself i'd create my own brushes for it, and polish up a lot more, but for this purpose, 20minutes a video, it does what i needed, wanted to leave more for the imagination than accuracy

Is there a way you can save it as something else, and compress it to a zip folder? I have dial-up and it takes forever. Ha. Sorry about that.
Nice painting though.

spyroteknik In reply to xbrianxbrianx [2006-08-02 11:30:28 +0000 UTC]
until google release their compression technology, xvid avi is the smallest compression i can make, and winrar offers more compression than winzip, it's about 3mb bigger with winzip

WinRar is a alternative WinZip-style compression/extraction thing, it's already compressed

When I download .rar files, they wont open. Do I need to download a program to open it, or is there another way?

Thistly In reply to xbrianxbrianx [2006-08-02 04:25:16 +0000 UTC]
you can get it here [link]
I think it must be better (more practical or something) than winzip, as it seems to be growing in popularity, and I'm seeing less and less winzip stuff on various download sites
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
spyroteknik In reply to Thistly [2006-08-02 11:33:45 +0000 UTC]
winzip will handle the rar format, just go to configuration in classic mode, then system tab, and change the file associations, although downloading winrar isnt a bad idea as it offers better compression
