Description
broke down this speedpaint (68minutes) into 3 seperate videos dealing with basic scene setting, simple clouds, an organic skyline, and foreground elements, hopefully it'll give you guys an idea of how i work, and maybe give some of you a few ideas. 3 layers used using basic photoshop brushes (apart from the skyline where i made some brushes on the fly, included them in the rarfile), kept it simple to follow, and apart from a little cropping and contrast adjustment, you get exactly what's shown in the pic............................
basic cloud formations - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-
...........................
basic city skyline - (24minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) - -[ [link] ]-
...........................
foreground elements - (22minutes runtime, winrar needed, xvid avi) -[ [link] ]-
...........................
hopefully you guys will enjoy them.
any problems with playing the files, try installing the xvid codec first (google it), if you can't get it to play (winamp & mediaplayer sometimes have a problem with xvid as it's the codec pirates use on dvdrips, they installed security measures on some versions) just download vlc player from videolan.org, it'll play anything and doesn't mess with your current setup. Also, winrar is easily available, but winzip/winace etc will handle the extension in the extension manager.

Amazing image in and of itself, then I read about the time you took over each element. Now I am just stunned. This is true mastery of your craft!

wow dude, like seriously words cant describe. man you gave me a whole new respect for digital artist with these tutorials. I was always awed but never saw a full extent of it. you created this entirely differented than i had expected when i first looked at it. I was thinking "okay, a cool sketch he came up whith an scanned, then used a couple painting tools to color it it." i had no idea what accually went on behind the scenes. dude, seriously, you gave me a brand new view on this type of art.

I think your popularity rating just skyrocketed. Thanks very much for these, very informative and interesting Watched the first one already, it was brilliant - a little dissapointed not to hear you speaking, but you can't have everything.
I see you use a very low flow on your brushes... I'll have to experiment more with that.
A small tip, should you ever decide to do something like this again: speeding the video up might be a good idea, because we still wouldn't miss anything and it'd also be a smaller upload/download.
Thanks again. Going to watch the other ones now.

cheers man, not sure whether i can talk and paint at the same time hehe, yeah, i thought about that, but wanted to do the same as gnomon offer, i've seen a lot of vids out there speeded up (i think painter has that option), but theres not a lot of realtimes out there

Gnomon is exactly what I was thinking of, actually. I think what they do is record the visual first, then speed it up and do a voiceover. Have watched the other two videos by now - and while I found the cityscape video enlightening and enjoyable, I found the foreground elements video enthralling and suprising - obviously, a lot of skill is required in order to paint in from a silhouette.
If you don't mind me asking - Cintiq, Intuos, Graphire, or other?

ahh, i've got the feng & dusso ones in realtime, and liked watching them at their pace, will think about voiceover, not sure whether people would understand me haha (geordie accent), i've got a beaten up old intuos a4

Ah yes - I've seen those, and the Dylan Cole and Aaron Sims ones too, which are sped up but still just as effective. It'd be interesting to hear what your voice sounds like even if we don't understand it. I take you to be a fellow Englishman, and yet I've never heard of this 'geordie accent' so I'm not sure if I'd understand it. Hope it's not as bad as the scottish accent.
I guessed your wacom wrong - I thought with that kind of accuracy you must have had a cintiq, but I suppose enough practice with a typical tablet can lead to near-perfect hand-eye coordination.

thanks, i've been wanting to try and vary my style and this should be a big help.
very impressive speed paint as well and the foreground/ background seperation is great, your eye doesn't focus on both the woman and the background elements when you look at the centre yet when you look at either side your drawn to the woman in the picture and the background then complements her.
what program did you use for screen recording? Whenever i've tried it, i found it records about 4mins then just stops.
