Description
This beautiful pattern is not my own, unfortunately - the diagram is found at [link]I made this with the intent of playing with it, so there are a couple minor changes that I made, like the base of the knight and the addition of washers in the pieces to give them weight. The chessboard is also my own- after trying various origami chessboards that people have diagrammed, I found that I didn't like those as well as just plain woven paper. Besides, by weaving the paper, I was able to wrap it over a stiff board easily to have a relatively smooth, flat playing surface.
Some tips for anyone who wants to make this:
1. Don't be stupid like I was and use hot glue to glue the pieces together
It really can't.
2. Be careful with foil paper. On the more complicated designs it works really well, like the Rook and the Queen. But take care with the bases especially, because when there aren't too many layers of paper, the foil easily gets crinkled, messy, and unhappy
Things used:
Black origami paper, silver foil-backed origami paper, black and silver acrylic paints, washers, scotch tape, hot glue, and paper glue, thick-ish paper (watercolor paper, maybe), and way thick board stuff.
