Description
They told us we'd be dropping on the homeworld, Earth, but that it was different now. Monsters out of nightmares walked desolate streets, a living red mist coated the air, and chasms to the land of the dead and damned split open the earth.I've never been back "Home" before, I grew up on Atlas here in the Outer Rim with my brothers... and the veterans say nothing can truly prepare us for what lies in wait.
We have to train constantly, always on edge, always wearing our suits. Earth isn't home anymore... it's Hell.
Audiomachine - Warlords
For the "Section 8 vs. Nightmare" set. The Empire stretches throughout the galaxy, but Earth is still the homeworld, and they must retake it.
For all their firepower, they can't allow Earth to be destroyed... but they couldn't destroy it even if there was no choice remaining. The only option is to stem the tide of the damned, to close shut their gates, and return the world to life. Questions echo through their minds, "How long until the nightmare ends?" "How many of us will be lost to the abyss?"
They retrain their soldiers offworld, making sure they're all prepared for the horrors of Earth; there is no room for error, for a moment's failure of judgment.
On a side note, the lightning on this originally sucked ass. Big thanks to Demoness for helping out.

But
I do have one question
How do you make good embers?

Generally, I make a small, hard brush with a very high scatter, and make it so that it has lower opacity and size the lighter I press, but higher opacity and size the harder I press.
I brush with that over a black layer, set it to Linear Dodge, apply an ocean ripple effect, changing the settings to fit the size and density of the embers I want, then apply a low motion blur to it.
After that, I do some color balance to give it proper color depth, then use liquify to give them a more natural movement, use levels on the result to thin them out a lot, then duplicate that layer and put a 5-10% gaussian blur on it, also on Linear Dodge.
That's just the process I use though. Making them look good depends on you, so experiment a lot, and don't ever expect the first try to be what you want.
