Description
With a thunderous roar, the M82 sent its lead-clad love letter across the catwalk, greeting its victim with a terrible force. The two girls were caught in an ambush in the worst of places: the space station's exterior catwalk, with nothing but reinforced glass shielding them from the void.
Each passing moment was a blessing as bullets sailed around them, though each miss was still an imminent tapping from the Reaper's scythe.
8Dawn Music - This Is Why I was Born
Had a sudden idea to make this the other day just on a whim; I don't really have much to say about it except that it was quite fun to do.
Character on the left is my female persona, Asha, and character on the right is a model hack done by ~bloocobalt .
Hugely inspired by KYMG's "butterfly M82A1"
Thanks to ~Niteshader for the glass crack brushes.

The one on the left is the female version of my personal model, and the one on the right was done by a friend, as I state in the description.
I have no intention of posting or sending links here.

Cloudy brushes with the desired color in highlight and shade, brush up a happy cloud and then use a hard-edged, uneven brush (I use the same cloudy brush as I use to paint it) at a high opacity to define it.

So, let me get this straight
you paint background smoke first at low opacity, then lower the size of the brush at a higher opacity and paint over some bits?

I generally brush the lighter parts of the smoke first, then go over it with the darker color to give it a more natural gradient, and then use the same process more frequently with a smaller brush to give it more detail.
Most of the time I keep the opacity at 20-30%.

ooh
So basically you make a base smoke and then refine it with smaller, stronger smoke with lighter and darker colors

Nope, all from the cloudy brush, but your guess could work too.
