Description Okay, a little backstory to tell...

Yes, at one time I was looking to become highly active in the anthropomorphic community -- yes, I call it that, or Anthro for short. I REFUSE to use the other F-word to describe it (to me its a negative connotation). So back then, I was looking for an animal to best express my "avatar" or fuzzy-other being... trouble was/is, a lot of people were using the more common animal types; foxes, wolves, cats, even panda and dragons and other sundry.

Then, I came across snow leopards....

I was hooked on their natural beauty and their overall image in the animal kingdom. Being a rare and also endangered breed they were the best choice for me.

But, me being ME, I just couldn't be satisfied with your everyday, silver-gray-white-and-black coloration. I had to add a difference to set mine apart from all the other Snowies out there.

That's when it hit me!

Make my version of the Uncia uncia GOLDEN.

So, here's the general look of the color scheme for my Golden Snow Leopards Sun Leopards.

EDIT: Thanks to for suggesting the name change.

EDIT #2 : Now Sun Leopards have a subspecies name -- P. uncia phoebus.

Mind, my personal "avatar" was a male, not a female. This drawing was originally done for me by Dawn McKenna; who wanted to gift me with a pinup to practice coloring with.

What do you all think?

Colors by me.

The Sun Leopard is my creation. If you want to draw one yourself, please let me know and credit me back with a link to this deviation, please. Thank you!

Very nice!
I've been meaning to find out about a site that had stories or fanfiction of these anthro beings. There was one that not only had these type, but centaur-like cat beings as well. It was called, like, Catkatra or Catchra or Catchkra. I'm not sure. They were basically about cats, but had some foxes and other anthro animals as well. Think anyone could help me?

Those would be "Chakats". ^_^

There's several online sources for anthro-fanfiction and stories. The best way to find them is through Google, Yahoo!-search or your regularly used search engine.

Hope that helps. ^_^

I'm on board with the sun leopard idea. Seems kind of pointless to use snow leopard when...well, it looks nothing like one now. You've made your own species!

If we're going to be tweaking the concept of an existing creature, I say you go for broke. Right now, she looks more baked brown than golden. Really go for the gusto with the coloring. I'm thinking her fur color should actually be more along the lines of these examples: [link] [link] [link] perhaps you can still tie in the snow leopard concept by keeping her hair white (seeing that the outer fringes of her fur is white, it would make sense.)

Already my little storytelling brain is conjuring up scenes of this little avatar, worshiped by some ancient people convinced she was one of their gold temple idols come to life...

If you do any sort of story dabbles, please do share them! I'll be tinkering with the colors more and see what more I can do to make her truly "golden".

and yeah, the Sun Leopard idea is DEFINETLY sounding like a winner. ^_^

Thanks for the input, kozi-chan!

The F-word has a sexual connotation to me, that's why I don't use it. Not my thing. But I hate all the flack the furry community gets. Would people just leave them alone? Jeez.

A golden snow leopard...does that make it a sun leopard?

It's for that reason I do not us the word F*rry when describing that particular community or fen. I blame that one episode of CSI... they couldn't have at least shown the full spectrum of Anthros, I ask you?

A Sun Leopard? hmmmmmmmm... *shifty-eyes*

Agh, I don't watch CSI, what did they do? Though I don't think it would probably be good.

Whee, I gave him an idea! lol

They basically focused on a victim that had been killed by a car, while crossing the road. The victim was wearing a full-body fursuit, and there had been evidence of sex on the victim. This left the CSI team to investigate "furries" (shudder), so they went to an anthro-convention... it just really painted Anthros in a bad light.

Like they're all sex freaks. *shakes head sadly*

Yeah... thus why I never use the word "F*rry" anymore.

But that idea... Sun Leopards... hmmmm!
