Description
PLEASE NOTE! -- PIECE WAS A WORK IN PROGRESS, NOW FINISHED!So, I was browsing, since now I have Photoshop 7 again and that means even with this netbook I can work on my coloring skills once more. I was looking through some galleries, and I found these lines by (original lines were drawn by ).
Now, if you haven't twigged it by now, I'm a big fancier of harem girls and belly dancers. Just look in my gallery, you'll see.
So, I'm taking a shot at coloring these two lovely slave girls, but now here's the rub. I need some help from the more experienced colorists out there:
-- Where do I bring in the light source on this one? I usuallyu do upper left or upper right, but I need to work more variety.
-- Any suggestions for pushing the shading/effects once I have the lighting set? I've been told I need to try more "mood lighting" (i.e. -- like a nighttime illumination, or candlelight simulation, etc.). What can you recommend?
I'm hoping to keep the base color scheme I put down here, so no suggestions on that score, please.
Okay, let's begin!
EDIT #1 -- Got the first layers of shadings down and the hair highlights/shades in place. Next, going to work on the bracers/armbands.
EDIT #2 -- Armbands/bracers and some more shading done.
EDIT #3 -- Final colors and effects, the piece is now DONE!

I love the harem/dancer aesthetic, but only as long as the girls are empowered and doing it for the fun of everyone, rather than actual slaves/harem.

Wow! Very nice and incredibly sexy. Not often do you see not one but two utter babes striking a sexy pose here in DA. I've always love those exotic harem-girl style costumes and this would have to be one of the best uses of them that I've ever seen. I especially like the pokies we get from the lady in green.
Great job!

I think yours is just as spectacular, Sunrise! You do stuff with smoke and metal effects that I can only DREAM of doing... my coloring skills are so woefully behind it's not funny. I just do basic shading and cel-style, but you've got more on the ball than me. Your version is superior in other ways than mine, so don't sell yourself short, my friend. ^_^

somehow I always do sell myself short because everyone else I know has higher tallents than mines.....
as for metal and smokes. smoke effects are very difficult to do but metal is kinda easy.. it involves with Layer effects>Bevel emboss> anc changing the contour with 2 hills

It turned out lovely. Nice work. I adore that you gave the redhead freckles. For the longest time I hated my freckles, but I have managed to accept them for the most part, hell some people think they're cute right? Go-go freckle power! RAWR!

Oh freckles were the bane of my existance when I was younger. But seeing them on a woman? Now that's just like icing on the whole cake. Freckles are cute!
Glad you like my humble attempt at coloring. ^_^ Hope to talk with you again soon!

Looking good so far, man!
Excellent detail on their jewelry and the smooth flow of their skirts.
I look forward to seeing the finished piece!

Wish I could take credit for that. I didn't do the lines, just attempting the colors on this, nothing more. Got to thank Shyft9 for doing a solid render on the inks.

i think the light source can be define in any direction, not sure how you want to aim it above the breasts or near the breasts..
It can also change in some areas because of the hair!
as for color you may want to experiment which goes to which, if you combined red and blue you might create that parrot effect if you use red and orange and then some hint of yellow, it could create a fire effect...
But I noticed you chose a green outfit which is really impressive.....

Ahh, this is just the base colors. I haven't even started on the shading/highlights and all the effect work yet.
Still a ways to go before the end.
