Description This is an illustration for a Harry Potter fanfic by Alchemia and Bugland called 'A Bittersweet Potion'.

In the story, Snape keeps a magical skeleton in a dome on his mantelpiece in his study. This is a drawing of it in the candlelight, surrounded by many bottles and various objects from the story including an absinthe spoon, an hourglass, a pot of Floo powder, a book on Raptumentaic Shielding and lots of cobwebs (Snape's not very good at cleaning!)

Here's an exerpt from the fic:

That metal thing on the mantel clicks its beak at me and shakes its head. I wonder what it is supposed to be a skeleton of and where he got it.

A link to the story is below. Note that it's not suitable for younger readers as it contains extreme content - please read the warnings on the site.

Done in watercolour pencils - Caran D'Ache. Took me absolutely ages! I used about 40 different photo references, but ended up making a lot of it up.

Really nice! Has such a warm feel, despite being in Snape's dungeon. ^^

That is so close to how I pictured the metal skeleton! It had a little more room in it's dome home.. but that's neither here nor there. The clutter is so, well, Snape. Congrats! Very well done to you. Have you read all 5 stories? (well.. there is 5 or 6 chapters in the 6th instalment.. but I won't read that until it's done)

Oh God, this is beautiful. I loved how you integrated different bits from the fic -- the absinthe spoon and the Raptumentaic Primer. And then you have all those details -- the fly, the cobwebs and those bottles, especially that one for Floo Powder.

I, too, like shumiaki love how you distorted the brick wall as seen through the glass. Also the bottles behind the glass dome are very well done -- how the colours blend together -- wow!

This is one of those lovely pieces that you can look at for a looong time and not get bored. I adore it!

Ah, an ABP fan! I tried to get a lot in. I re-read the chapters to try to figure out as many things as possible that might be on the shelf, how the room would be lit, what the walls were made of, the period styles to go for etc.

So thanks!

This is amazing!!
I love looking at it and seeing things I didn't notice at first like the floo powder, the little slotted spoon type thing and the fly's reflection in the glass.

Hello, fellow Boosh fan! I had loads of fun putting in little details from the (fanfiction) story. When you're dealing with a rich universe, it's great to pick out your favourite stuff to draw from it. The slotted spoon is actually an absinthe spoon. You put a sugar cube on it, then pour the warm absinthe through the sugar. It's mildly poisonous otherwise, apparently.

Aaaah I see now!! I should've realised about the spoon, I did a little bit of research on absinthe after I watched Moulin Rouge because I thought it looked cool..
Also I just noticed that you say it is in the artists comment... was that always there?

I don't say this lightly, but wicked cool.

I like the effective use of color in the piece, and especially how the scene still looks so dismal with so many different colors in it. It's warm, but yet the cobwebs and skeleton make it a lot more cold.

The twisted perspective around the glass is also neat.

Thanks a bunch! I usually go a bit mad for colour, but I tried to restrain myself here because the piece needed to have atmosphere, so it's really good to hear that worked. Excellent!

Yeah, I was pleased with the glass perspective because it was much more exaggerated than the real thing. So cheers! Thanks for leaving your lovely comment. And for the watch as well. I hope you like my future stuff.

Wow, this is really good. I mean, the whole brick wall through the glass is beautifulllll (sorry I notice weird things like that )

I actually looked at some photos of glass domes and they're all designed NOT to warp light through them, so they don't really bend what you see behind them like that - I had to exaggerate wildly to for effect! So thanks for noticing because I worked hard on that.

Well it looks great! A lot of people mess up perspective and bending light, this is perfect!
