I wasn't paying too much attention during the last Harry Potter book...but didn't he write in his sixth year potions book? ehh....I guess he would have written in all of em. Wow this is sweeet........You say ink and brushes? Man....this is crazy, awsome job.

I think you're right - but he could have kept it another year, perhaps? To make more notes on the spells he was inventing? Good point, though. I didn't think of that.

Snape has a January birthday, so he was 17 for most of his sixth year!
He was already writing in the book in fifth year, if not earlier, because he invented Levicorpus by working it out in the margins of that book, and Levicorpus caught on and enjoyed a vogue during his fifth year. But he presumably used it, and went on writing in it, during sixth year and very likely in seventh year too. It's probably a NEWT-level text (sixth and seventh years) rather than specifically a sixth-year text.
