Description
Here's an article from a Dutch anime magazine called "Aniway"Here's the translation:
"Weird guys, those French"
De rise of manga in the West doesn't appear to be good news in some places.
Asterix-comic artist and writer Albert Uderzo was probably so threatened by
"The invasion from the East" that he dedicated his latest album, Asterix and the falling Sky
(Asterix en het Geheime Wapen),to it.
In the story, a 'Nagma' (Yellow, grasshopper-like, bad talking) creature tries to steal the
magic potion of the Gauls.
Just tell me what you think of this

I've collected both manga books and Asterix books, but I would say that I love Asterix the most. Indeed, it's true that mangas and anime cartoons have become incredibly popular, but there's some trends in manga that are not really great and the author Uderzo did indeed point out how Japanese manga has overshadowed great comics like Asterix.
Here's some things that manga has that makes them have less appeal than other comics like Asterix:
1. Manga and anime tend to have very drawn out fights where people fight, then talk, then fight, then talk... cough!*Naruto*cough! Must be a cold!
2. Manga is never colored in. I know their schedule for printing manga is tight, but it would make them so much cooler if they were colored in!
3. Manga jokes can be hilarious, but most can be simple and not funny. In the Asterix comics, jokes in there are the type that requires you to think a bit and know some history. "Et tu, Brute?"-Julius Caesar.
4. Most manga isn't appropriate for kids. It's okay to have some violence in certain stories, like The Lord of the Rings with warfare, but some comics go WAY over the top and leaves fewer comics that kids can read and enjoy. (This is a slight problem in the U.S. too.)
5. Story ideas are repeated and reused multiple times in manga. Some manga do truely unique things (Trinity Blood, Undertown.), but most just do the same old thing.
Hope this helps people think more about comics!

(Sorry if my bad english make it hard to understand)
I'm in disappoint, because Manga is the comic in Japan, and you only mentions Shonen, a type of Manga with a lot of action but less plot, with young males as potential readers. Manga is also Shojo, more romantic stories for young girls (Maison ikkoku) or comedy (Kochikame) stories of Terror for adults (Uzumaki) Shonen with sports insteands battles (Slam Dunk) "Sherlock Homes" Esque stories (Detective Conan)Mangas for childs (Doraemon) Sci-FI (Akira) etc.
The problem is... Shonen are very, maybe too comercial, and sadly, a lot of peoples only know this face of the Mangas, think as all the Mangas are about violence and battles, when it is false.
About the manga... I'm like Asterix, but the bad plot (Uderzo doing his worst in this album, sadly) and the negative vision of the Mangas (And USA comic, too, but the negative to the comic is less agresive) making me watch it as the worst Asterix story as i'm reading

You do bring up some good points. I guess I was a little too critical of manga. There are indeed manga comics that are fantastic. I especially like Trinity Blood, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney manga books, Zombie Powder, and Undertown. Most of my critizisms were against mangas like Naruto or Dragonball. I'd be lying big time if I said I didn't like manga. This goes to show how much I know of manga, basically nill .
Thanks for bringing up other types of manga! You present a good arguement in the defense of manga comics!

I feeling a bit guilty for no see your reply until now, sorry for the huge delay. I glad to you can see as manga no is only Dragon Ball or Naruto. Precisally, i read the whole serie of the Manga Monster, as is a excelent adult story (violent but whinout Gore, realistic but with a halo of mistery) is really a recomended reading.
Phoenix Wright manga? I am a huge fan of the games, i looking forward for read it
Maybe i looking also for the others mangas as you says as your favorites.
See you later!

It's alright for the late reply. I do it all the time (marching band, tests in school, playing way too much Plants vs. Zombies on PC ). I've been thinking, and realized a while ago that any sort of comics or genre of video games and movies can have negative aspects to them. For example, I could easily criticize American comics by pointing out "Most of them are super-heroes wearing spandex and their underwear on the outside of their pants! And all they do is save the world multiple times!" I could also criticize and poke fun at romance stories (they bore me to tears.)
Any sort of genre of books, comic books, movies, video games, and stories can have both positive and negative appeals to them.

I am ok about the stereotypes, all it is true. Is just as more peoples should know as Mangas no is only Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon (For example, Monster, is a excelent adult Thriller, you should read it)
Recently,i was reading the last album of Asterix, a comic about his 50ΒΊ aniversary. Is a odd comic, but nice and fun. I am both a Manga and Asterix fan, and, sincerally, i am happy for see as the "AntiManga" Asterix album (The only Asterix comic as is bored to me) no was the last album for Asterix.

Good points you mentioned there and yes....I like Asterix a lot as well.
I'd have to disagree on you on your second point. Manga are sometimes colored, even though it happens rarely, but when it happens, it's only for the first few pages. Color ink can be quite expensive, so that's why manga are mostly printed in black and white.

True, and some manga artist have to release a new section from their graphic novels every month to magazines like Shonen Jump.

Asterix powaaaaaaaaaaaa. If San goku drink the potion he could become unbeatable if Panoramix give the potion(imagine a fight between the ancient verson of Laurel and Hardy and this freak of sayen)but he think won't give this potion to him by his own.

I like both genres, but I think Asterix needs more help on this one. Mangas already have all the support. GO ASTERIX!! I have yet to read the latest book though.

Understandable...
After seeing that Asterix and the Vikings movie for the first time, he and Obelix can EASILY put a few of those anime/manga heroes in their place! (i mean, DESTROY them)
They're gunning for those freaking Naru-TARDS.

I've read that comic book, and it was hillarious. Unforunately the Nagmas were the bad guys... but it was a hillarious story nonetheless!
