[ NOTICE - This is still tyger-pax ! I have lost access to my old account and have to start fresh. Any duplicated art you see here is not stolen, just transferred over! ]The traps are just a coping mechanism. Some of us forget about things like the Wolf or pretend it never existed. I think it's understandable. A way to give yourself that illusion of safety, that what's out there is somehow less well-versed in navigating that old place than you are. You don't think about how there's no reason it wouldn't notice the shift of a single stone in its own home. You don't stop to consider that the snares you put up may not be anywhere near large enough to hold them. You don't think about how these things have existed longer than your forefathers and will exist long after your grandchildren are dead.
There's a certain comfort in building yourself a little edifice to human stubbornness. You go to the edge of the trees and erect a little marker that says "I know you're here and you need to leave" and decide you've done enough. That's how we all want things to be: one thing requiring minimal effort on your part, and then all of your problems are over. All the monsters go away at sunrise. Your livestock will stop going missing and coming back with missing organs but no cuts, your crops stop growing into spirals, and your children stop talking about creeks flowing upwards and tall men walking on the rooftops.
