Sorry I haven't been on here in over a year. This model has not currently been cast but I am planning on it some day.

Ahh, Dunkleosteus. One of my favorite prehistoric creatures, but also perhaps the one that I would least like to meet. :thumb81525880:
Excellent work on this. Is that a taxidermy eye?

Yes it's a taxidermy eye. I find it is easier to position the eyes properly with something that has pupils in it.

Do you know what species' eye that was supposed to be? Just out of curiosity.

It's a finely done fish, to be sure.
But how big is he?

He's about 8" as a model... in reality hey were much bigger.

8 inches? Wow, that's small; it's a fine creation, whatever the size.
And yeah, he was massive in life; thirty feet long.

I had to go google just what a Dunkleosteus was. It's hard to see w/o the lower jaw on, but as far as my novice eyes can see it will look awesome finished. What is it made of? Will it be painted when finishes?

It's made of Super Sculpey around an aramature of aluminum foil, aluminum wire and epoxy putty.
I'm going to make a mold, cast it in resin, put it together and then paint it.
thanks for the comment.

He is going to be a model kit. that's why I have to make his fins/jaw separate from the rest of him. The problem is that no one has found any parts of Dunkleosteus other than his heavily armored skull. the rest of the skeleton was cartilage.

wow immense ! It looks verry professional. I've no idea what Dunkleosteus is, but it looks like combination of fish and bird in one ;] It seems to be alive... great !
