I actually like your black and white, because it feels complete and has a lot of character. Its still good to try new things, but in case you are feeling it just doesn't suit you. Just know that you have an avid fan for your black and white artistry. Yes it is an artistry ^_^

Photoshop is a difficult but rewarding application, I learn something new everyday about it.
I really like the Alice series, I think I would like to see some more linear storylines like this one. Your stuff really reminds me of some of my favorite Indy comics. And this one looks like it should have been featured in "Flight" The colors are pretty flat in this...unless that is what you're going for. Personally it's not my favorite style...it's probably one of the reasons I wish the Sandman series had a different style.

I didn't even think about the color scheme... I've really only begun to take photoshop seriously, and I never got around to physical painting (other than ink washes... my good friend the ink wash...). So I'm totally behind the curve, and I have no excuse. Your photoshop stuff looks great though... is there any tutorial on this you know of?

In response to your other question, "multiply" is a layer option that allows you to color UNDER your lineart. When you have your line art scanned in and cleaned up all you need to do is create a new layer, and then after you do that, go to your layers palette. (That floating one that says layers, channels, paths) Under layers is a drop-down menu that should say normal. Click on that and in the options that drop down one should say "multiply" After clicking that you should be ready to go.
For some good photoshop techniques these are the places I recommend going to check out.

I don't know if you ever use comic fonts or screentones. ( I do, but that might not be your thing) So if you would like links just let me know.
