Description I didn't set out to paint Ophelia, but there's so many girls who like to reenact that scene that eventually all their reference photos won me over. I just had a vague idea of a woman coming up for air. But oh well.

I've seen Hamlet (the Lawrence Olivier version) but never figured out her motivation for offing herself.

Maybe I'll watch it again with a notepad...

wow, that is beautiful. the colours...
and just so you know, most people don't think it was a deliberate attempt at a suicide that killed ophelia, more that she fell in and didn't try and save herself. I guess she just gave up on life, because of all the sadness and corruption around her (as well as in her).

I guess I need to track down an "unabridged" version of Hamlet and pay close attention. Though, I really did like the Olivier version.

Thanks for the words.

Wonderful job! The water effect works well and the contrast of the rich color of the flowers and her lips against all the other neutral tones is stunning. I love it.

Thanks for the comment!

I just wish I knew more about oil painting... I don't think watercolor was the best choice...
