Description
Fitness Model Kim Klein suits up in space gear and the cosmos will never be the same again...Done in-between pages for my good buddy and partner-in-crime Ian Ascher who is still one of the best writers I've ever had the pleasure and honor of working with. Course now he's going all Hollywood on me so I gotta check him and keep him grounded.
Not too much time was spent on this. I really love to do these character studies quickly and keep alot of the initial inspiration and energy on the page. Besides comics aren't stew and hesitation kills.
Pencilled loosely with an F lead then inked with Microns and my Brushpen. I slapped the colors on with my trusty Prismas and away we go. If you want to see the inked lines sans color (no I'm not drunk) go check out my blog for that and other goodies.
Okay folks, back to the drawing table...

Thanks for looking and asking Jaylin. There are a TON of colorists on DA alone that are much better at this than I am. I'm not really a colorist per se more of a lead slinger that just dabbles in the realm of color.
Who knows though, someday if I have the time I may just try to color something of yours up so keep posting stuff for me to check out and we'll see what happens.

Thanks! I agree that this costume is totally insane especially in the deep, dark vaccum of space.

Yep, that's me.
I don't really run it.
I'd say Emiliano Santalucia does most of the running these days.

Thanks for the props, brother! Mark the record as showing that, YES that is indeed a slight case of camel toe.
(Beats saying that my marker slipped and I was just too damn lazy to fix it in Photoshop anyway, besides isn't it supposed to be 'HAWT' or sumpin'?)
As for the pose it's more of a 'hi there' rather than a ruthless, crazed dictator type.

Prisma mastery at its finest. I want to whip up images like this myself. Alas, my prisma work still looks like the stuff of kindergarten.

Just keep at it Jon-where you see mastery I see feeble first attempts. The learning lies in the challenge and challenge yourself you must.
Okay, sorry 'bout that Yoda moment but you totally get what I'm saying, right? I used to dread working with markers but I dread giving up on stuff just that much more and the more you use 'em the more you'll find little tricks that work for you and help you to put forth that level of work you're looking for.

Thanks Nicole. Everyone that I asked kept telling me 'less is more' in respect to my coloring approach so I'm trying to use the advice as best as I can.
Love your Webcam pic by the way. Superman's shield never looked so good!

Advice is as good as one makes it...but not all advice can be for everyone. You seemed to have taken good use of it here though.

Nice work! The design of the space gear is especially good, I think--the alternating colours and the repeated chevron motif make for a very striking outfit. Excellent work! Very well done!

Futuristic space design can be fun but stressful when you want to ground it and have it look semi-realistic. Don't know if I pulled that off or not but sometimes it's groovy to just cut loose and see what happens.
Thanks for checking it out, Lewis.

I'm all out myself but once they send me my comps of the new IRON SIRENS colored re-print I'll send one your way a.s.a.p.! Kim here is set to debut sometime around issue three or four I think. Still don't know if they'll go with this version or not but I had fun playing around with her outfit and look either way.

Wally taught me everything I know about storytelling in pretty pictures, in just 22 panels. All the books I've bought on the subject have only added to - if that- to that knowledge. And while I do know who he is, I've never read his work.
But, I can see you as a teen sneaking around with Sally Forth comics.

stalk In reply to geezone [2008-01-25 12:16:41 +0000 UTC]
heh, Sally Forth.
Seriously though with just those 22 panels a good sequential artist can pull out millions of differing variations to add and strengthen their visual narrative style.
As far as reading his work...I just like looking at the pretty pictures.
