Description
Had to draw up my version of Dean Yeagle's Mandy recently so here she is in all her splendid glory.For more info on Mandy and her talented creator give Dean a visit at Caged Beagle.com
Drawn on 11"x17" board with an F Lead. Inked with Microns ranging from a .01 to Graphic 1 and colored with my trusty Prismas. Highlights and lines on her overalls done with a Uni-Ball SIGNO brand white ink pen.

I love Dean's work, but Mandy in your style is so awesome! Like how her toes open up, and the way she's holding the bubble wand, she has so much personality.

I'm glad you picked up on those little details. Sometimes I think I'm being silly by drawing those tiny beats like the toes being spread or how she's holding the bubblewand but it's nice when they're appreciated.

First off you rock for doing a mandy! YEAGLE 4 life! Second even tho the heman in me wants to say "YAY BOOBS" the artist says holy shnikes on the stripes! This is a fun pic. very well done.

It's always a challenge to take on such a well known artist's character like Mandy here for example. It's hit or miss and I decided to just go with what makes Mandy great-her sexy playfulness and I'm glad it worked.
No doubt talented folks like Yeagle are a tough act to follow for the greatest of artists and even more so for a hack like myself.
All that being said, I'm glad you liked her!

I knew I couldn't touch Yeagle's Mandy so I tried my best to make her look like that while still keeping it in my style.

I've met Dean a few times at shows very briefly but he's always been an awesome and humble talent and just the nicest person too.
As for showing him the piece I'm actually waiting to hear back on whether or not he approves this image for a project that I'm not sure I can mention too much about yet.

I use DECO PEACH for the initial pass then do the darker shades with a BLUSH PINK. Sometimes I throw some SKY LIGHT BLUE, CLOUD BLUE, LIGHT CERULEAN BLUE, or VIOLET MIST in to further push the darks while keeping a soft color that doesn't pop too much and overpower the DECO PEACH.

Nice work! I like how you balanced the recognisable elements that Yeagle gives Mandy (she's so expressive and there's a vibrancy to her colours)balanced with some elements of your own style that makes for a great mix. I also quite like the composition and how you built it around the bubbles.

I toyed with the idea of doing those big expressive Yeagle eyes that make Mandy just breathe with life off of the page but they didn't translate so well in my first sketch passes so I opted to just try and capture what I felt was Mandy's essence.
The compositon was a happy mistake because I knew going in that she would be blowing bubbles but I had originally intended for her to be sitting on a little stool or stump outside. Once I got to the inking point it just clicked and I went "Big bubble, DUH!"

I'm kinda glad you didn't really--basically because then it would be less your style mixed with his and more a straight homage to it, and that would have been good, but not as interesting, I don't think.
