Description
A little Halo commission in it's pencilled stage. Still needs some tweaking but I'll do that in the ink and color stage. Drawn on 11"x14" Strathmore Bristol with an F Lead.Reference for this piece was a must. I don't know how the guys that draw the Halo books handle having to illustrate all the little nooks and crannies of the Spartan armor without going nuts. You must really love you some Halo or the paychecks must be that good.

Oh my, this is very awesome indeed! I love how you had the lines on Thel's suit disappear into the "background", very smart design move.
Mind if I ask you a question? Is F a hard lead or a softer one?

It's on the hard side of the lead scale between an H and an HB. I like it because it keeps it's point like an H but gives you softer lines like a B so you can do the finer detail type of work while still getting a nice dark line if you want it by pressing down a bit harder.

Thank you! Don't know if I'll post the finished piece up. I like to respect the clients ownership of the art and I hate watermarks covering up the work as well so unless they decide to share it here or it pops up in one of my sketchbooks later I usually don't show a lot of commissioned work.

Maybe another week, week and a half. Again, no worries on getting right in. I have lulls and I use those to catch folks who either changed their minds due to finances or wanted to be skipped.

Ha ha, lol, good point about all the details! I hated drawing the Spartans myself, but then again I've always been an Elite fan first and foremost.

Yeah, that's probably it. I never use the thing myself, if I see one I remove myself as far away from it as possible.

I would probably never draw anything Halo-related, not only because I don't care for the franchise, but also because that armor is just everything I don't want to draw...blocky, heavily detailed and uninteresting in design. Not that it doesn't have its charm, and you certainly did a great job with this. I like the posing.
