Description
Heh, I decided to start giving y'all some tutorials! Yay!Anyway, this is the Western Dragon Flying tutorial. I know I have man-writing, so I shall read them to you. Hrm... *puts on glasses*
This is in 1, 2, 3, 4 format, by the way, left to right.
WESTERN STYLINGS: FLYING MANUALLY
During slower speeds, dragons' tails hang down, unsupported by wind. During the "upbeat", or point of maximum height of wings in flight, the body is also unsupported by wind.
The neck flexes; for the most part, the head doesn't move. During the "downbeat", the tail lifts and the neck arches upward. The feet always hang down, regardless of wing position. The wings revolve in a counter-clockwise motion.
"Backwinging" describes braking or a brief, strong jump followed by one or three strokes of the wings, usually used to take off or to leap higher than normal.
A diving dragon will fold its wings tightly against its body and use the tail and neck rather than its "pinion-fingers" (the prongs, or fingers of the wing) to steer and control flight. The dragon stretches out its forepaws to make their bodies more aero-dynamic, and their hind legs splay out behind them as usual. To come out of a dive, they simply look in the desired direction and flare (open) their wings.

Thank you! I've always had trouble with different poses. And the heads. And drawing.

But it's so good! Do you have one for bird wings?

You know, I don't! I could make one, though. :> In the meantime, this one helped me out when I was designing some of my feathered characters: [link] Simple and doesn't show how it attaches, but it's pretty good for showing the different layers! Also, try looking at bird wings in life. I wouldn't recommend playing with roadkill, or maiming animals, normally, but if you do happen to see a dead bird, grab some gloves and play with its wings. Or, even better, pick up some large pigeon feathers and start tearing them apart. There's no substitute for direct observation!
