Colutura sort of reminds me of Rise from Persona 4 now that I think about it. Although I hope the show doesn't say her pop star persona is just a shallow part of herself.

Hmm.... actually, my perspective is that's just another game for the ego to play. It's just another layer of "self-differentiation" for us to get ourselves wrapped up in.

Not that you're a "loser", but that obsession with that kind of showiness reflects a kind of value system that doesn't really serve anyone because it devalues people's individual expression in place of blind "popularity".

Well, I just don't see it that way, but you're obviously free to interpret as you see fit.
It's not so much an argument over what "style" is better, but more about whether a given style is true to the artist. In the episode, as established by Applejack's observations, Rara was not being true to herself because she had given herself over to the "embellishments" provided by Svengallop. She didn't have the confidence to stand on her own talents and her own passion alone.
If her "lady gaga" style was her true passion, then so be it. And people can like that without feeling like "losers". It's just that such a style tends to get overwhelmingly popular anyway, and artists and fans get carried away seeking "popularity" for its own sake.
