Description Another one by request...I will put up a couple more....sorry guys, just mark as read if you are sick of redundency, because god knows I am! This caught me because you can look through the helmet into the flames as the firefighter does. The name I came up with because I feel to be a firefighter you have to be committed, willing to die, and willing to save in such tragic circumstances. Personally I would love to be able to do this, but I would not make it past the EMT training as all the blood would make me too sick to help anyone else

Amazing piece. The fire is so powerful. I can almost hear it roar, and feel the heat. No blurriness in the flames really make it stand out. Gosh, I get goosebumps looking at this.
Reasons: I'm a nurse, and have seen the horrific injuries it can inflict people with. And I love firefighters!

Your image speaks so loudly. Fire is powerful, yet controllable with the right man on the job.

Well done!!

Yes it was awesome, because they were all in training yet that is when I think they are inspired and compassionate the most. It was insane being that close, it was actually very hot. We could only get that close because it was a controlled fire, nothing that couldnt be put out in a matter of seconds...all natural gas.

I've done some EMT - and some of it really did nearly make me lose my lunch. (Really - the room started spinning)

Anyway - back to reality... great shot! This is really like face to face with the enemy. It does alsmost appear to be looking back at him too.

You can almost feel the heat!

almost! I did feel the heat! no almost about it. I was damn close, almost scary, good things it controlled though Thanx for the comment. And why have you done some EMT if you don't mind me asking? Were you thinking about working in the field?

First I did some at school, as part of a big course we had to do - and then the opportunity came up to do classes a few years back. Then I worked on a book that put emergency techniques into a survival situation, and had to learn new stuff. I have this theory that everyone should know some basic emergency stuff - that way, there are loads of injuries (particularly involving loved ones) you can deal with. I use power tools like and idiot and fiddle with electricity, so I need a partner who could recussitate me... is what I probably mean!

Incidentally - the most grim stuff (and the videos they showed were very graphic) were burns and multiple injuries (as in car accidents).

yes very graphic. The training is all in hospitals with real injuries and even death, I could not handle such things. I have a hard enough time with the fact people die horrible deaths everyday, not something I want to witness, however I respect those who do, those who can handle it and put their life on the line. They are some of the most respected people in my opinion. They come before the doctors and police to help victims, they risk their lives more so than most. Impressive to see such training and really inspiring. I captured some shots that sort of seem emotional, to get the feel of firefighters in duty, however, they really were not emotional at the time, as it was all teaching, all training, and alot of talking.
