Occasionally you have to take time aside and just do a project for yourself and I was thinking about a good friend who loves this movie and it just took shape and flowed on the paper, especially as I love this movie and the soundtrack too. Soft focus timesaving background comes to the rescue once again. One of the most relaxing projects of 2018. Now being used for wedding invitations for a friend
I haven't done any Labyrinth art since last year so it was about time.
Done with polychromos pencils and built up in layers, utilising my pressure application and layering techniques, the picture consists of 9 colours.
Jareth's eyes were done with dark sepia, black, warm grey 1, warm grey 4 and warm grey 5.
His nose was done with white, black, warm grey 3, warm grey 4, warm grey 5 and warm grey 6.
His mouth was done with dark sepia, warm grey 3, warm grey 4 and warm grey 5.
His hair was done with white, warm grey 3, warm grey 4, warm grey 5 and warm grey 6.
His skin was done with white, warm grey 2, warm grey 3, warm grey 4, warm grey 5 and warm grey 6.
His tunic was done with black, warm grey 1, warm grey 2, warm grey 4, warm grey 5 and warm grey 6.
His shirt was done with white, black, warm grey 4 and warm grey 5.
His glove was done with white, black, warm grey 2, warm grey 5 and warm grey 6.
The orb was done with white, warm grey 2, warm grey 4, warm grey 5 and warm grey 6.
Finally, the unfocused background was done with white, black, warm grey 1, warm grey 2, warm grey 3, warm grey 4, warm grey 5 and warm grey 6.
Completion time: 16 hours, 09 minutes

Thanks
The soft focus background is a massive 'artist's cheat' because I only have to suggest the environment.
I guess every viewer will see something different depending on their perception.
Still, it does save a lot of project time and brings the subject into clear focus.
This was a great project to do and sometimes they just flow really well but that's probably because I love this film!

Thanks
It was a fun project to do.
The white and warm grey 2 really helped to highlight the orb and the warm grey 6 next to them just emphasised the effect.

There are always telltales for people if they look for them.
As a realism artist I get that a lot but it's nice when people take the time to really look

Yes, the mix of anger, defiance and danger.
Jareth was a great character and Bowie made it his own.

Yes, it's pure childhood nostalgia for me too but also one of my top 10 films of all time.
I watch it a couple of times a year.

Have you tried them?
They are amazing pencils. It took me 8 years to get a full set but I wouldn't trade them for anything.
Thanks

Well when I started I took 6 months just experimenting with them to see what I could do with them.
It's all about nib shape and length, angle relative to the paper and pressure applied to change the effect from the colour.
So 8 years and several hundred projects later, I can do stuff like this
