I've set myself an 'Alphabet Challenge' for 2018.
Each week I will move through the alphabet and make a piece of art related to whichever letter I have reached. It might be a tv show, film, character or ship - whatever pops into my head.
So, week 5 and we have 'E' and the first thing that sprang to mind was 'Ed Mercer', Captain of the Orville. Really enjoying the show. Now, I know this series is a reason for heated debate among certain fan groups but if you feel the need to do so, go start a post in the forum.
Do not do it here! Thank you
This image was done from reference of one of the first publicity stills for the show and it got me interested in seeing what it was all about. Apologies for not doing the WIP game at the moment as with family here, my online time is more limited for the next month but rest assured we will return to the game as it's a lot of fun and your guesses have been hilarious.
So the projects up to 'H' might be a little quicker than some or where I can work from an image while minding little ones and making sure they're keeping the colour on the paper and not the walls
Done with polychromos pencils and built up in layers, utilising my pressure application and layering techniques, the picture consists of 27 colours.
Ed's eyes were done with white, dark sepia and black.
His eyebrows were done with dark sepia.
His hair were done with dark sepia, Van Dyck brown and brown ochre (dark)
His nose was done with medium flesh, light flesh, black and burnt siena.
His mouth was done with medium flesh, light flesh, dark sepia
His skin was done with white, medium flesh, light flesh, dark sepia and burnt siena.
His uniform was done with white, cobalt blue-greenish, light phthalo blue, dark sepia, black, cold grey 3 and cold grey 5.
His sidearm was done with white, ultramarine, light phthalo blue, Payne's grey, cold grey 1, cold grey 2, cold grey 6 and mauve.
The blaster pulse was done with light phthalo blue.
The trees were done with white, juniper green, earth green yellowish and chrome oxide green.
The building was done with violet, light phthalo blue, black, cold grey 1, cold grey 4, cold grey 5 and burnt siena.
The sky was done with sky blue, warm grey 1, warm grey 2 and warm grey 3.
Completion time: 30 hours 22 minutes
Original image: The Orville episode one, 'Old Wounds'.

I'm quite impressed to learn this was drawn by pencils, it looks very realistic! Great pose as well

Thanks
Ploychromos pencils are really good for blending, layering and shading.
They have an oily element to the pigment which is great for this.
By changing the nib shape, length and pressure applied, you can get a lot of different effects from them.
Realism and detail work are my artistic happy place

Great action shot drawing. I've not seen the show, but for some reason this guy reminds me of Peter Brady! I think that every time I see him. Amazing artwork as always!

It came out last year. All 12 episodes have screened in the US.
We still have 4 more to go in the UK

It's on FOX so I'm not sure if that's something you can get but definitely worth a watch

I don't have cable, so that's a nope
unless it's online or on Netflix, I can't watch it
the companies that offer cable here charge a fortune, so it's not worth it
we get our internet from Teksavvy, and their prices are reasonable

It may well come on to Netflix when it's finished screening.
Keep an eye out for it.
