Thank you. Lingering controversy on the subject aside, it felt appropriate to put these specific designs into scale with one another, at least, the scales which would seem to have the most evidence for general accuracy.

Whoa; the 2009 EnterpriseΒ makes the original one look like a toy!

Indeed, it would, though admittedly this scale is at the high-end of the numerous potential sizes for the JJ-Prise.

Nonetheless, some might see such scaling as an indicator of some latent inferiority complex on the part of JJ, needing to compensate for other possible short comings via the whole β€˜my starship is bigger than his starship’ thing...

My apologies, I just could’ve resist taking a swipe at JJ... he has spawned some rather... disappointing... projects over the last decade or so.

Thank you, I think it accomplishes its purpose of highlighting just how much modern Trek has, let's just say 'changed' the design of the Enterprise over the last decade, first in 2009 then with STD...for better, or worse...

Indeed

I'd just call it the "Discontinuity", there's no way in hell it fits into the original timeline XD

Actually, the KT Connie isn't from the Prime Timeline, it's established as an Alternate Reality much like the Mirror Universe is. It's the Disco Era that's causing problems.

That's what we're talking about, where'd you get the impression we were talking about the Kelinverse Enterprise?

It is certainly... problematic... to try and reconcile the mountain of canon continuity issues, however, I can still see a certain amount of elegance in the redesign itself.

As far as I'm concerned, it might as well be a different class of ship. Not saying I wouldn't agree on one or two of their design changes, but the vast majority of the changes made were wholly unnecessary in my eyes. I think all they had to do was bring the front of the base of the neck forward a little bit to make the structure look a little more firm and apply some of the hull patterns/textures from the TMP era ships to the ship itself, add a few small details here and there, maybe make the shield emitter grid look more like what I did for my ship the Rostov, and it'd be a reasonable visual update without having to effectively redesign it from the ground up. Hell, there's so much they could've/should've done to make us believe it wasn't more canon than what they've given us. Gives me a lot of doubts about the Picard series...

While I understand, and frankly agree with many if not most of the arguments against STD, in cases like this, I try to simply focus on the technical minutiae. In this case, the soft challenge of getting the scale right and the look of these altered nacelles are what attracted my attention the most; I can appreciate their more robust look, much like those developed for Axanar (which, for the record, I was far more enthusiastic about than STD).

Who wasn't more enthusiastic about Axanar than STD? The latter' literally just a rip-off of both the former and that's Tardigrades game. At least Axanar was actually an original idea XD
