Description
Heavy CruiserExcelsior Class 1.1 (NCC Commissioned Configuration)
Although not subject to as wildly differing size and scaling issues as other designs (most notably the Defiant Class and Klingon Bird of Prey) the ‘official’ specifications of the Excelsior Class does come with some controversy.
The first and most generally accepted length for the Excelsior Class is 466.6 meters, a figure first cited in a comparison chart developed for Star Trek III: The Search For Spock and published in the June 1987 issue of Cinefantastique.
The second comes directly from the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual which lists the length for the Excelsior Class as 511.25 meters.
This chart illustrates the Excelsior Class scaled to each of these two general specifications and places them in comparison to an Excelsior Class as originally scaled by Captshade.
1) The top image is of the Excelsior as scaled to ≈ 467 meters.
2) The center image is the Excelsior in the original Captshade scale (2336 pixels in length translating to a rough length of 408.9 meters).
3) The bottom image is of the Excelsior as scaled to ≈ 511 meters.
